The Tiger Cub Scouts, will be credited with points to earn their Tiger Cub Patch and Communications studies.  Pack 42 Webelos Scouts from Charles Town, WV came to Prettyman Broadcasting Company's studios January 9, 2013 at 6:00pm.  The tour was also contacted by Pietro DiSante. It is explained during each tour how our facility benefits the community and the different jobs it takes to make it happen.  Not only do participants get to see the inner workings of radio but also they are informed of the many career opportunities radio has to offer.

On June 29, 2012 WEPM News Director, Hans Fogle met with Shepherd University Professor Cecilia Mason and an intern with West Virginia Public Broadcasting. Fogle spoke to the intern about some of the differences she might see between public and commercial radio. he also shared advice when it came to job seeking and reporting in general.

Prettyman Broadcasting Company's News Director Hans Fogle spoke with juniors at Musselman High School on Thursday, March 29, 2012. He spoke about his educational and professional experience.

Prettyman Broadcasting Company's Account Executive, Thomas Cummings attended a day long Mock Interview Project on Friday, April 12, 2013, with over 300 students. It was held at Hedgesville High School as a part of the Berkeley County Schools to Work Initiative. This project validates the need for students to compile an attractive and accurate college/career portfolio for the presentation to prospective employers or colleges.

While interviewing approximately twelve students during the day he evaluated the contents of their prepared portfolio and conducted a question and answer "mock" interview session. He was asked to observe and critique their ability to respond to an interview situation.

Written evaluations were completed on each student including personal observations on appropriate dress and demeanor. Constructive comments were provided to aid the student in improving certain areas in their presentation.

The purpose of this program is to better prepare students for real-life experiences in the work world presented by local volunteers from various fields of endeavor in this community.

Prettyman Broadcasting Company's employees are very active in the community. This allows connections to be made which is used as a tool in hiring. Tom Cummings, Account Executive, is involved in the local Chamber of Commerce, Tri-State Business Network,  The Norwalk Foundation, and various other community organizations.  From 2011-2012 WEPM News Director, Hans Fogle, served as the Business Representative on the Advisory Board of the Burke Street Promise Neighborhood Initiative, or PNI, a division of the United Way of the Eastern Panhandle. PNI focuses on an about 40-block area in Martinsburg surrounding Burke Street Elementary School. The goal of the Burke Street PNI is to harness the energy and resources of the community, businesses, educators and government "to break the cycle of poverty by ensuring that children from 'cradle to career' are provided with the resources and services they need to reach their full potential and be successful and thriving citizens.”  February of 2013 WEPM News Director Hans Fogle began serving on the Board of Directors for Berkeley Community Pride. The civic-minded organization was founded more than six years ago to reduce litter, encourage community-wide recycling and educate area youth on the importance of responsible use of resources. They also award annual scholarships and are beginning to do more educational outreach into Berkeley County Schools. April of 2013 WEPM News Director Hans Fogle agreed to serve on the advisory committee for the “For the Kids, By George Children's Museum.” It is part of the 136-mile Washington Heritage Trail, a state- and federally-designated National Scenic Byway that loops through Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties connecting historic sites with tourist attractions. The hands-on, interactive displays tell the story of Martinsburg, Berkeley County and the region by focusing on the life of a young George Washington, when he worked in this area as a 16-year-old surveyor for Lord Thomas Fairfax.

Prettyman Broadcasting Company also offers internships to college and high school students.  In April 2013, Brett Gordan, a student at Shepherd University, entered our intern program. He works closely with the office, sales staff, news department, and on-air programming. Internships are a wonderful opportunity for Prettyman Broadcasting and the students. The students learn firsthand about the inner workings of broadcasting. Prettyman Broadcasting also benefits from the intern program. By working with these students we learn what is being taught and expected of our future broadcasters.
