6:15  I was working in my yard yesterday pulling weeds. I pulled something that I was a little concerned might be poison ivy. Then all of a sudden, I started itching. It wasn't poison ivy (just a bunch of bug bites) but I was wondering why we itch. I turn to find out from How Stuff Works.com and learned. Now you can too...

WHY WE ITCH:
The average human body is covered by about 20 sq ft (2 sq m) of skin. Skin is the only organ that is constantly exposed to potential irritation. And, with so many things coming into contact with your skin daily, you’re bound to get an itch or two. Here’s how it happens …
• Itching, also known as ‘pruritus’, starts with some kind of external stimuli, including bugs, dust, clothing fibers, and hair. (Say it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKip03opOfI)
• Like tickling, itching is a built-in defense mechanism that alerts your body to the potential of being harmed.
• Once the hair or dust scratches your skin’s surface layer, receptors in the dermis of the skin become irritated. In a split second these receptors send a signal to your brain.
• As soon as we sense an itch, our first natural response is to scratch the spot of the itch with our fingernails. The reason is simple … we want to remove the irritant as soon as possible.
• Even if you don’t remove the irritant, scratching will at least cause pain and divert your attention away from the itching.
• But, when you scratch the spot where the irritant is, you not only remove the irritant but you irritate a lot more nerve endings than the irritant. So sometimes itching leads to … more itching.
(You just started scratching, didn’t you?<========== I know I did.)

7:15 Clinical psychologist Dr. Ramani Durvasula recently conducted an observational study of 1,000 coffee drinkers. The survey assessed numerous common personality styles and psychological traits including introversion and extraversion; patience; perfectionism; warmth; vigilance; sensitivity; and social boldness, among others.

in the survey, which is described in Dr. Durvasula’s book entitled You Are WHY You Eat: Change Your Food Attitude, Change Your Life, people were given common scenarios that we all find ourselves in: how we approach waiting in long lines, how we plan dinner parties or what our typical weekends look like. Participants were asked to choose from a series of approaches to these scenarios. The survey also asked if they drink coffee and what they typically ordered. The results were not that surprising. What did the survey reveal about different coffee drinkers’ personalities?

I have to admit I was skeptical about this but his findings are pretty on target. I'm in the “latte” category. Really it was waaay to close to home. See the chart here and see where you fall on the scale.

8:15 Single? Check this out:

NOT LEARNING FROM MISTAKES:
If you want to date someone who looks like your ex Match.com will set you up … for a fee. The online dating site has partnered with Three Day Rule, a matchmaking service that uses facial recognition software to identify a person’s type and then finds potential partners who bear a resemblance. You just upload pics of your ex and the service finds compatible dates with the same facial structure. Soon certain Match.com members will be given the option of upgrading their account to include Three Day Rule. But it doesn’t come cheap. A 6-month package costs – ouch! – $5,000. (Wouldn’t you rather forget that jerk you dated and move on?)
