How much do you spend to decorate and prepare for Halloween each year? I know I usually stress about the costume and what I'm going to wear to parties.
With a record 170 million people planning to celebrate Halloween this year, the holiday continues to be embraced by many as a time to let loose and have a good time. That also means a lot of money will be spent. Spending on the holiday is expected to rise to $8 billion, up 17.5% from last year, according to the National Retail Federation. According to the survey, 70% of Americans – some 71.5% – will celebrate this year, up from 68.6% last year, and the most in the survey’s 10-year history. The average person will fork out about $79.82 on decorations, costumes and candy, up from $72.31 last year. A bigger part of the budget this year will go to costumes. Although the average person will spend about $28.65 on costumes, up slightly from $26.52 in 2011, retailers and costume manufacturers are saying that costumes continue to become more elaborate each year and shoppers are buying more accessories to go with their costume. Other survey highlights:
About 15.2% of consumers will be turning to their friends on Facebook for costume inspiration, while about 7.1% will search the pictures on Pinterest for ideas.
All told, families with children who plan to dress up for the holiday will spend about $1.1 billion on their children’s costumes, slightly more than last year. However, adults are expected to spend about $1.4 billion on costumes, up from $1.2 billion in 2011.
About 15.1% of consumers plan on dressing up their pets, with spending on pet costumes reaching $370 million, up from $310 million last year.
Summer movies are getting on a roll now! Two weeks ago we had Iron Man 3, last week The Great Gatsby debuted with success and now this week we have Star Trek Into Darkness! I saw it on Friday and I must say: BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR so far! The 2009 reboot...
The Summer movie season is finally here, thanks to Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man 3! This of course, is the third Iron Man movie, but is actually just as much a sequel to last year's blockbuster: The Avengers. If any of the Avengers (Captain America,...
Okay, normally I see movies right when they come out, but I waited a little while to see Oz: The Great and Powerful. I finally saw it and I loved everything about it! Great visuals, great 3D, great story, great cast, tons of family fun and magic! I am...
Christian Lopez is a friend of the West Virginia Morning Show and have stopped by to chat about AI (well, as much as he's allowed to say) and he played his new original song "As Far As I May Go". Gooood stuff. Check it out.
