The West Virginia Morning Show

Thanks for tuning in!

Hi, I'm Rona...and I'm pretty random. I blurt out things that come to mind. Sometimes funny, sometimes serious. Tune in to find out what I mean. Drop me a line at rona@wltffm.com!

Thanks!

Back after a break...Body hacks, The dress UGH!, Madge fall, American beer is po

I have hesistated in putting this in social media. I was out for the last week and a half due to the passing of my father. It's not something I've even put on my social media page, but did mention three times on the air today...so I figured I can mention it here. Point is that it's private and I'm a pretty private person. We all have to deal with this at some point, but mine was unexpected and I guess, it doesn't matter, you can never prepare yourself. --Rona

So..what I discussed on the show.

6:15 MORE AWESOME BODY HACKS:
If you want to hold your breath underwater longer, take a series of short breaths instead of one huge inhalation. This tricks your brain into thinking it has more oxygen.
Studies suggest that increasing the level of CO2 in your bloodstream is the key to ending hiccups. Therefore, breathing into a plastic bag for about 30 seconds is an almost sure cure.
If you suffer from motion sickness or nausea, try pressing and holding the spot between the two tendons on the inside of your wrist.
To revive an arm that has fallen asleep, rock your head from side to side. This will reduce the tension in your neck and help to ease the pins & needles sensation in your arm.
If you have an urgent need to gag, grip your thumb as firmly as you can inside your fist. This should help you suppress the gag reflex.
If you want to suppress the embarrassing situation of crying in public, hold your eyes wide open without blinking. This will prevent tears from forming.
For temporary vision improvement, curl your hand into a fist and look through the tiny hole as you would a telescope. This trick temporarily increases your depth of field and focus.
Everyone's familiar with the desperation of urgently needing to pee when there's no bathroom in sight. To suppress this urge, simply think about sex.

7:15 The dress. What the heck is up with the dress? Is it White and Gold or is it Blue and Black? This is apparently trending big time. I saw the dress and it appeared white and gold. Then later I looked at the same picture and it appeared Blue and Black. I don't get it. This is the whole story....and this explains why we all see it differently.

7:45 Oops. Madonna falls while performing onstage. Ouch! http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-31633349 I think she got whiplash. She's a better trooper than me. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-31656354

8:15 THE WORLD IS DRINKING A LOT MORE AMERICAN BEER

Americans are drinking less beer than they used to – and when they do throw a few back, they're often choosing craft brews.

But according to statistics from the Census Bureau, other countries are drinking MORE of our beer.

For example, brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev has said that 44% of its sales were overseas in 2011 – up from 28% in 2008. It seems that percentage has only increased as the brand has continued growing worldwide.

And if you think about it, it makes total sense.

In other countries, American beer is foreign beer.

We're drinking their swill. Good to hear they're drinking ours as well. (Get the whole story on Slate)

8:45 Friday Toy Memory- Fisher Price xylophone. I remember every kid on my block had one of these things. I imagine that after our parents bought if for us, there was immediate regret because of the noise factor. Imagine, a whole neighborhood of kids playing "Hot Cross Buns, Happy Birthday, Mary Had a Little Lamb" or something else over and over and over and over again...yeah, you get the picture. Annoying!

One time I went to see The B-52's in concert and Fred Schneider pulled out his Fisher Price xylophone and started playing along, it made it even MORE cool to me at that point! Here's a vid of someone playing one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cl4Ni4TmZk

Winter Myths Busted!, Wearable futon, Girl Scout cookies without the calories, S

6:15 10 Winter Myths busted! From Gold's Gym- and Health.com. See the whole slideshow here: http://www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,20755836_5,00.html

  • Myth: You don't need sunscreen in the winter

  • Myth: Allergies go away in the winter

  • Myth: You lose most of your body heat through your head

  • Myth: Lack of sunlight causes winter depression

For instance: While dark days certainly don't help, there are many other factors besides seasonal affective disorder that can contribute to winter depression—especially around the holidays. Busy schedules, family stress, and worries about holiday spending are more likely to trigger the blues than true SAD, which affects just 5% of Americans. Learn more about surprising causes of winter depression.(I'm not sure I buy this one!)

7:15 I always want to sleep. I'm pretty sure I was a cat in another life. At any rate, I'd love to be able to just lay down and go to sleep wherever I want. Behold the Wearable futon! My prayers have been answered. Here are two sperate articles about it: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/30/wearable-futons_n_5909238.html Really? Can you imagine wearing your own sleep gear? http://www.businessinsider.com/king-jim-created-a-wearable-futon-2014-10

7:45 Girl scout cookies without the calories? They've teamed up with Yankee candle and will create limited edition candles in the flavors of Thin Mints, Trefoils, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Coconut caramel stripes (aka Caramel delights/Samoas)

8:15 This Kid's got a really good business sense!

Jonathan Sarisky proved that all it takes to avoid the lure of cold sugary beverages is the promise of cold hard cash.

The 11-year-old Livingston, Montana, boy made $500 by eschewing soda, juices and energy drinks for a full year and opting instead for only milk and water.

It was the trio of mother Renee Shifley, stepfather Rick Shifley and father Jason Sarisky who made the offer to Jonathan to swear off sugary drink for the entire year.

Actually, Jonathan could have made $100 right away, like his brother Andrew did, and spent 2014 sipping the sweet concoctions that health experts have blamed on childhood obesity crisis and all the health problems associated with it.

But he opted for the bigger cash prize and managed to complete the challenge without cheating. Jonathan's mom said that waitresses in restaurants admired his willpower.

As for what happens now, Jonathan said he might indulge in a sugary drink once in a while but swears he won't overdo it. See Jonathan here: http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/health/montant-boy-500-giving-sugary-drinks-year-article-1.2063954

Happy Presidents Day! Follow the Germaphobes, Can't get back in your car after f

6:15 Germaphobe Habits Everyone Should Follow (After realizing this, I might be a germaphobe...maaaybe.)

Everybody has a certain tolerance for filth and germs. It doesn't bother some people, while others do everything in their power to avoid contacting any surface that hasn't been disinfected with boiling bleach water.

Well, what some might call "ove-rreacting" could actually just be "practicing good hygiene."

According to doctors, here's a rundown of some germaphobe habits everyone should actually follow:

  • Hold Your Breath When Someone Sneezes – Holding your breath for just a moment after someone with a cold sneezes can actually help lower your odds of catching it.

  • Wipe Down Your Phone – Because your phone touches your hands, nose, and mouth, cleaning your phone at least once a week with a disinfecting wipe will limit your exposure to unwanted bacteria.

  • Use a Paper Towel on Public Bathroom Handles – The door handles in public restrooms are actually the germiest surfaces in public restrooms. Keep your hands clean by using a paper towel to protect yourself.

  • Wash Your Hands the Right Way – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that you wash your hands for a full 20 seconds and get all the surfaces, including between your fingers and under your nails. Get the skinny on skipping germs from Yahoo.com

6:45 At the gas station, I fueled up and got in the car to warm up. Well, the pump cut off before it finished filling. When I got out to start the pump again, The pump screen said "fueling halted, see attendant for receipt."

I was like uh...

I go inside and the woman at the counter told me that you can't get back in the car when fueling. She said, she knows it's cold but that you aren't "allowed" to get back in your car when fueling. I was friendly and said Oh, okay, I never heard of this before, but I could tell she'd said this to a bunch of people before on the same day so I let it go and didn't ask any questions. Anyone else heard of this? Maybe it has to do with this? (but I don't think so) http://www.snopes.com/autos/hazards/static.asp

7:15 Did you watch SNL 40 last night? It was a great show that did a good job of reminiscing and showing some of the best sketches over the 40 years like

  • Roseanne Rosanna Danna
  • Coneheads
  • Sharks
  • Church Lady
  • Gumby

So many stars showed up and did a bit Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon did the opening with a fun rap.

There were audition tapes of people that have gone on to have great careers. Jim Carrey, Stephen Colbert, Tracey Morgan, Amy Poehler, and Phil Hartman among others. It was very cool. You can see some of the highlights here: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video

I heard somewhere that the show will re-air on Friday, Februay 20th.

7:45: It looks like kids who partake in energy drinks could be doing some serious harm.

Middle schoolers who consume sweetened energy drinks are 66% more at risk for hyperactivity than other kids, according to a new study.

To assess the effect of a variety of beverages on middle schoolers, Yale School of Public Health researchers surveyed 1,649 students in 5th, 7th, and 8th grade about their beverage consumption and assessed their levels of hyperactivity and inattention.

"Despite considering numerous types of beverages in our analyses (eg, soda, fruit drinks), only energy drinks were associated with greater risk of hyperactivity/inattention," the authors write in the study published in the journal Academic Pediatrics.

Unlike soda and juice, energy drinks often contain ingredients like guarana and taurine. The researchers say it could be the effect of these ingredients mixed with caffeine that causes problems. Read the full story on Time.com.

8:15 QUIT CALORIE COUNTING! (this makes perfect sense to me!)
Don't bother counting calories … it's the type of food that matters. Experts at NYC's Albert Einstein College of Medicine say focusing on calories may mislead and harm public health. How so? Some items high in fat – nuts, olive oil, fish, and full-fat milk – may actually be good at keeping weight off. And supposedly healthy low-fat foods may be the real diet villains as they leave us hungry and wanting more. For instance, refined carbohydrates such as white bread, chips, and white rice may leave us hungry or craving sweet foods. So if your looking to be less hungry, choose foods high in protein, which fills us up more than other foods. Read the full article here from DailyMail.co.uk .

6:45 STUDY: Couples Who Work Out Together Are More Likely to Stay Fit According to a new study, people are much more successful in their quest to become and stay fit when they work out with their significant other.

Researchers found that almost 70 percent of the study participants, both men and women, began exercising regularly when they worked out with a romantic partner.

When exercising alone, though, only 26 percent of men and 24 percent of females had the motivation to get active.

The same kind of results were found when it came to weight loss, with 26 percent of men and 36 percent of women dieting with their girlfriend, boyfriend, or spouse lost weight – while 15 or fewer percent of either gender did it by themselves. 7:15 Okay, so tomorrow is Valentine's day and everyone is losing their marbles thinking about cards, chocolates, flowers, etc. Instead, here are some cheap, romantic ways to celebrate with your honey. From an expert on Huffington Post.com

1. Have a picnic in your living room.

Too cold to go outside? Create a picnic in your own home. Make it rustic and romantic by spreading a blanket across the floor surrounded by candles and flowers. Buy a traditional picnic basket and place it in the middle of the blanket to surprise your partner. Musts to pack in your basket -- finger foods like sandwiches, chocolates and wine.

2. Plan a spa day... at home.

Create a spa day for you and your significant other in the luxury of your own home. Key word here is luxury. So clean your house (or order a professional cleaning) and make it special by buying slippers and a luxurious robe. Tell them that tonight is all about them and you'll take care of everything. Start by drawing a hot bath with essential oils, bath salts or rose petals. Get cozy in the bath and have a chilled facemask ready or cucumber slices to put over your eyes. Turn the lights down low, put on some relaxing music and soak for at least 30 minutes. When you're both ready to get out of the bath, have the bedroom ready by lighting it with candles and using massage oil to give each other a long, extravagant full body massage.

7. Play hooky.

Make whatever arrangements needed to have zero obligations and stay in bed all day long together. You can make your partner breakfast in bed, play board games or watch romantic movies together. Get cozy, stay in pajamas all day and have amazing, connected sex.

8. Have a wine tasting night for two.

Re-create a wine tasting for two in the comfort of your own home. Go to a great wine store and ask for help picking out 3-5 good bottles of wine that would give you some variety for a tasting. Ask what foods pair nicely with the different wines (preferably finger foods like cheese, chocolate or fruit) and show off your knowledge by staging a wine tasting for your lover at home. Set the mood and make it as romantic as possible.

More good news about red wine … A study from the University of Alberta in Canada found that drinking a glass of red wine is the equivalent of working out for an hour at the gym.

According to researchers, resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, can improve physical performance, heart health and muscle strength. Cheers to that! Get the full article at My Daily. http://www.mydaily.co.uk/2015/01/26/a-glass-of-red-wine-is-the-equivalent-to-an-hour-at-the-gym-says-study/

Bring Punxatawney Phil to justice!, Which is better dishwasher edition, Choose y

5:45 In an attempt to lighten the mood, there's an arrest warrant out for Punxatawney Phil because he predicted an early spring. That's great, but once they catch him, how are they going to get his fingerprints?

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2015/02/11/arrest-punxsutawney-phil-police-in-new-hampshire-say/

Here's the post from their Facebook page of the Merrimack Police Department:

Posted arrest warrant for Punxsutawney Phil

· February 10 at 3:28pm ·

We know we are a day early, however we here at Merrimack Police felt compelled to let the public know that there is a warrant for Punxsutawney Phil! We have received several complaints from the public that this little varmint is held up in a hole, warm and toasty. He told several people that Winter would last 6 more weeks, however he failed to disclose that it would consist of mountains of snow! If you see him, do not approach him as he is armed and dangerous. Call Merrimack Police, we will certainly take him into custody! Ha!

6:15 Which is better week? Do you put the tines of the fork up or down in the dishwasher? I always put them down, only because I have injured myself in the past with forks and knives that were up and I wasn't paying attention. Most people disagree with me though. They think the tines of the forks and knives should go up, so they get cleanest. Oh well! Such is life! A little disagreement never hurt nobody.

7:15 Just in time for Valentine's Day... Some love advice for you:

Relationship expert Dr Annie Kaszina's new book "Do You Choose Your Dog More Carefully Than Your Husband?" is coming out Valentines Day. In it she claims you should choose a partner in the same way you choose a dog. Here are a few of the things to look for …

✓ Temperament – Mean, moody, and magnificent may sound exciting but they're qualities that lead to hard-work relationships. Better to look for sunny and sweet-natured as you would a pet.
✓ Yappiness – Incessant talking on a first date may be a sign of nerves, but also could point to a lack of interest in others and/or a lack of social skills.

✓ Playfulness – Not just someone to have fun with, but someone who's fun to be around. You want a friend you feel comfortable enough with to act silly.

You'll stop using the gym on this date, Which is Better TP over the top or under

5:45 Did you make your new years resolution to go to the gym more often? How's that working for ya? If you are one of those people, The Frisky.com says that if you haven't already committed to it, you're bound to stop on a specific date (and it's coming up soon!) http://www.thefrisky.com/2015-02-10/heres-the-exact-date-this-month-that-youll-give-up-on-the-gym/

Read the whole thing here!

6:15 Which is better week? TP Over the top or underneath? Toilet paper roll delivering tissue forcibly over the top – OR – mounted daintily and flowing downward to correctly deliver tissues underneath?

Who knew that this would spark such discussion? I had many texts and calls about it and while I think over the top is ONLY acceptable when it's in a hotel or hospitality setting, that is the preference of most of the people who chimed in. Here's a brief look at some of what people had to say:

  • Joe called in and was reaching. Something about going underneath means the paper doesn't touch the wall or some nonsense.
  • Caller X said that she goes over the top too. :(
  • Robin texted in that she's the only one in her office that loads the tp the "RIGHT" way. I am with ya girlfriend!!!!

  • Someone else, says she didn't care one way or the other but that her fiance really feels it should be over the top so she does it for him but otherwise, she couldn't care less.

7:15 What are you getting for your honey for Valentine's day? How about your pet?

We all know that Valentine's day is Saturday. According to National Retail Federation, Americans are expected to spend on average about $143 on all the essentials like candy, flowers, cards etc.
We'll even buy stuff for our pets.

Will you by into Valentine's day? I won't! --Rona

8:15 I talked about seeing the video of Sam Smith on Shazam. You get to hear him in his own words here's it is:

http://www.shazam.com/news/why-is-sam-smith-so-embarrassed

In a silly move, I talked about more than one thing in a break. It's kind of a radio "no-no" (now you know) but anyway, I found this interesting:

MEN are More Likely to Post Selfies Than Women...

It may seem hard to believe, but a new study reveals men are actually more likely than women to post selfies of themselves. A survey in Britain by smartphone maker HTC revealed that young guys post a selfie an average of three times a week, compared to just 1.6 times a week for women. As for what the selfies show, 76 percent of guys say the photos show off their bodies, while just 45 percent of women say the same of theirs. Specifically, 20 percent of men say they like to show off their chest, while 55 percent of women say they like to show off their faces. About a quarter of male respondents ages 18 to 30 say they are posting to make a current or former partner jealous -- that's about twice as high as the percentage of women who said the same. 8:15 You know I'm totally about convenience: How about this?.
Tomatoes and potatoes go together like, well, ketchup and fries—so why not grow them together? A hybrid plant known as the "TomTato" or, yes, "Ketchup 'n' Fries," allows you to do just that, and it's now available in the US after first being released in the UK. The plant combines a vine growing cherry tomatoes with roots growing white potatoes—but it's not genetically engineered. Rather, it's created by grafting, in which the tomatoes are "spliced onto potato rootstock," theOregonian explains, noting the process works well for tomatoes and potatoes because they are closely related. Technically, you could try to do it at home, but it requires the plant stems you're joining be the same thickness.

National Pizza Day! Strawberry debate, Movies, Coffee, Grammy Awards recap

5:45 I know it's too early to think about pizza...but since it's National Pizza day, I figured I'd get you in the mood for lunch. :) My favorite has always been black olive and sausage pizza. What's yours?

Check out this crazy pizzaburger.

6:15 Over the weekend, my friend Shaquita posted this little question on Facebook and I wanted to see what hte listeners think. She said, "you buy strawberries. A few in the container go bad (with the white fuzz)...do you pitch the bad ones and freeze the rest, or do you put it all in the trash??"

She had about 25 people that commented and overwhelmingly, our listeners agreed with her Facebook comments, pitch the bad ones and freeze the rest. Here are a couple from our listeners:

Theresa called in and said, she'd pitch the bad ones and freeze the rest for Smoothies. Things are too expensive to throw them all away.

Frank texted in and said: I would pitch the bad ones, wash the others in cold water and freeze em. Restaurants would pitch the whole batch (i think). He also said that because the mold releases mold spores, that's why he'd wash them before freezing. (good idea Frank!)

6:45 Daily Grind Wakeup call. I woke up Jason. I'm pretty sure his wife signed him up and didn't tell him. He didn't seem to have much of an idea of what I was talking about ...but then again, he was ASLEEP!!!! If you haven't already signed up, go here to do it today. I can't call you if you're not registered!

7:15 Grammy awards recap and thoughts.

  • It was a very somber affair with lots of ballads and heavy messages.
  • They started with AC/DC so that was fun and upbeat but...it went to a normal awards show.
  • Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett ROCKED! Dancing Cheek to Cheek.
  • Rihanna wore a dress that made her look like one of those dolls that go inside the toilet paper. Look at this to see what I meme...uh, I mean MEAN! Ha.
  • Sam Smith won a bunch of awards
  • Beck took home some surprising awards
  • There was a woman there speaking out about domestic violence and it was very powerful.

Woman walks into a Mcdonald's w/kangaroo!, National Wear Red day, 15 Apps we all

A woman walked into a McDonald's with a diaper-wearing kangaroo. It sounds like the set-up of a joke, but it actually happened in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and customers were not too happy.

The woman was asked to take her kangaroo and hop on out of the restaurant, but she refused and a customer called police for assistance. When cops arrived, the woman showed them a valid doctor's note saying that the kangaroo was actually a service animal and therefore had a right to be with her. But despite the note, police made her leave because the other customers didn't feel safe. Safe? What, is the kangaroo going to jump out of her arms and box somebody? Here's the link for the story and a pic of the kangaroo...in clothing here: http://rt.com/usa/229819-woman-therapy-kangaroo-mcdonalds/

Here's the question: What kind of service could the kangaroo have provided this woman other than offering a pouch to carry things like her car keys and a cell phone?

6:15 Daily Grind Wakeup Call. I woke Charly up :) hehe! If you haven't signed up, get on it!!!! www.wltffm.com and click on Daily Grind picture to register!

6:45 Today is National Wear Read Day. What used to be "Go Red for Women Day" because heart disease is the number one killer of women and most people are unaware of that. They believe it to be breast cancer. The #5 killer of women is stroke. http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/#

7:15 I'm a big fan of downloading a bunch of apps I'll never use...BUT! I found this list of apps that really can help with my delayed New Year's Resolutions. Remember at the end of the year, there was that article that says you should try to do your resolutions in February instead of in January (because in January, you're just too tapped out physically, mentally, financially after the holidays).

Here are the 15 apps everyone should have on their phones: http://www.lifehack.org/articles/technology/15-apps-everyone-should-consider-downloading.html?mid=20150204&ref=mail&uid=325307&feq=daily

7:45 END OF THE COMPUTER MOUSE?

A new gadget lets you navigate your PC with the flick of a wrist. 'Flow' is a small programmable wireless controller created by engineers and computer scientists in Berlin, Germany. Users control apps with hand movements or by tapping the device, similar to the futuristic device featured in the 2002 Tom Cruise movie "Minority Report". The gizmo is designed to be more sensitive and flexible than a traditional computer mouse and can be programmed with shortcuts for more than 30 functions. The gadget is available for pre-order from crowd-funding site Indiegogo for about $99, with an estimated delivery date of June 2015. (So easy to use … unless your left ear gets itchy.) See the article here.

8:15 You're killing me smalls. Look what KFC has come up with now. A hot dog, wrapped in a chicken patty. It's called the Double Down Dog...and it's only offered in the Philippines. #iwanttotrythis!

8:45 Friday Toy Memory- Writing on the chalkboard or 100 times on a sheet of paper. When I was a kid, I got in trouble for talking too much in class. I always had to write "I will not talk in class" and I would cheat! I would write one loooooong vertical line down the side of the page, then I'd put a horizontal line on each line and then proceed to try and cut the work (does this look familiar to anyone else?)

With as many times as I had to write, "I will not talk in class", I should have seen the writing on the wall that I had a future in radio! (pardon the bad pun)

I love that on the Simpsons opening montage, Bart is seen may things, other than "I will not misbehave in class". IN fact, here's a list of all the chalkboard gags! http://simpsons.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_chalkboard_gags

Do teachers still do this?

Puzzle phone for all your needs! These old words aren't that old! You can't call

5:45
Google has developed Project Ara, a build-your-own modular phone with components that fit together like Lego. The phones with swap-able parts should cost less to maintain and be more attractive to consumers who want to customize their devices. Google plans to have 20-to-30 modules available which clip into the handset and could include cameras, speakers, batteries, displays, blood-sugar monitors, laser pointers and other items that are affixed to the shell by magnets. The design is also intended to increase the life of the phones as it will allow users to replace individual components, rather than the entire phone. Google plans to test-market the product later this year in Puerto Rico. (Just wait till your toddler gets hold of one of these!)

6:15 WORDS & PHRASES COINED 100 YEARS AGO: I thought some of these were new!

A few terms that first came into common usage in 1915 …
• 'Babe' – This word was used to refer to an infant as far back as the Middle Ages, but the first documented use meaning 'an attractive young woman' dates from 1915.
• 'Blues' – Several songs previously included the word in their titles ("Dallas Blues", "Memphis Blues", etc) but use of the word as a musical genre came in "Chicago Sunday Tribune" in 1915.
• 'Episode' – First used to mean an installment of an entertainment series (as in "stay tuned for scenes from next week's episode") in "Moving Picture World" on November 13, 1915.
• 'Jazz' – In 1912 it meant energy, excitement, pep or restlessness, animation, excitability. The first reference to jazz as a musical genre is also from "Chicago Sunday Tribune" in 1915.
• 'Lifestyle' – The first recorded use of the term appeared in the publication "Mind", when the author of an article referred to Impressionism as the 'life-style of our age'.
• 'Skinny' – Skinny jeans are not so new; skinny meant tight-fitting a hundred years ago when a fashion report suggested: "Skinny clothes are in vogue this year."

7:15 WEIRD NEWS: What's In a Name? Did you hear the story of the guy who got paid because Comcast called him a bad name? It happened last week... A Washington state man just got a big payout from a cable TV company that went out of its way to give him a bad name -- one that's so bad you can't even say it on radio!

Ricardo Brown tried to change providers, but he was shocked when he went to his mailbox and found a final bill from Comcast on which his first name had been changed to a euphemism for that place where the sun doesn't shine. The problem started when Brown's wife, Lisa, called to downgrade the family's service, saying they'd been having financial problems. But rather than just do that, the customer service rep tried pressuring her into a new two-year contract, an offer she declined.

Lisa demanded an apology, saying neither she nor her hubby fit the name on that bill, and ultimately got one, along with a promise of two years worth of cable -- and that really kicks butt! See the story here (and a copy of the bill) usat.ly/18zLc3P

8:15 MONEY WILL MAKE YOU LESS SAD – BUT NOT NECESSARILY HAPPY

According to a new study out of the University of British Columbia, money can make you less sad, but not necessarily happy.

In studying the effects of income on happiness, the researchers made a distinction between lack of sadness and real, honest-to-goodness happiness, and found that more money won't make you any more optimistic or upbeat – but it can make life's inconveniences suck a whole lot less.

The study subjects who made more money were found to experience less sadness on a daily basis – but not more happiness.

So, don't blame your lack of happiness on your lack of money.

That's not a money problem. It's a "you" problem. Well, that was simple. Here's the article.

I babbled. I'm sleepy., We borrow our moms clothing, Your face in 3-D chocolate,

5:45 I babbled. I'm sleepy.

OR What I really talked about...

One of our co-workers (who throws a mean pot luck I might add) is leaving. Deanna is throwing a Salad Bar and we're all excited to eat and fellowship with each other today.

6:15 MORE THAN HALF OF WOMEN DRESS LIKE THEIR MOTHERS

When I first read this, I thought it meant like when you get older you dress like your mother, instead it means we borrow from our moms because we think it's cool. Read on:

  • According to a new British survey, more and more young women are raiding their mother's closet for clothes.
  • Of those surveyed, 52 percent of women say their mother is their top style influence.
  • This trend is being caused by a generation of confident moms who still want to put their best foot forward with their appearance.
  • The survey also found that the most borrowed items of clothing are purses, dresses, and shoes. Read the story here on: DailyMail

Is this you? Do you share clothes with your mom? Or… No way, no how, never? My mom has passed away but I have a few of her older pieces that I wear all the time. Retro baby!

6:45 Who would want a mask of your face in chocolate? Soon Hershey's will make it possible at Hershey Park!

For a while now, we've seen 3D printers doing more and more amazing things, including making human body parts.

Well, the Hershey candy company is taking 3D printing to a new level. They are installing a 3D chocolate printer in their Hersheypark headquarters in Pennsylvania that will let you print chocolate versions of your face.

The CocoJet will allow visitors to order custom treats, from geometric shapes to wedding toppers.

If you're a chocolate fan, it might be time to book that trip the Pennsylvania to see history in the making. (Thrillist) http://www.thrillist.com/eat/nation/3d-chocolate-printer-at-hersheypark

7:15 This is just ridonculous!!!!!!!

Woman Doesn't Smile for Decades to Reduce Lines, Wrinkles---One woman has managed to avoid the need for Botox simply because she hasn't cracked a smile in 40 years. Fifty-year-old Tess Christian says that preventing wrinkles has been the reason behind her perennial emotionless expression, even managing to keep a straight face when her daughter was born.

Christian told
Daily Mail, "I don't have wrinkles because I have trained myself to control my facial muscles. Everyone asks if I've had Botox, but I haven't, and I know that it's thanks to the fact I haven't laughed or smiled since I was a teenager. My dedication has paid off, I don't have a single line on my face. . . My strategy is more natural than Botox and more effective than any expensive beauty cream or facial."

Dermatologist
Dr. Nick Lowe says that while extreme, Christian's thinking is correct. He said, "Wrinkles happen because of the constant creasing of smile and forehead lines by the muscles in your face, which fold the connective tissue under the skin. If you can train yourself to minimise your facial expressions, you won't get as many lines. We know this because it is exactly how Botox works — by reducing muscle activity. . ."

Christian says she first learned how to control her facial muscles while attending a very strict Catholic school as a child. See more and a video here: on
Daily Mail

Or just click the link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2935632/Meet-woman-says-hasn-t-smiled-40-years-doesn-t-wrinkles.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

This is her below: What do you think? I think it's great that she doesn't have wrinkles but I think you're supposed to smile through this life. When you have wrinkles and laugh lines, it shows you've experiences life, and have the beautiful lines to prove it!

7:45 Marc and I discussed Uptown Funk. I am in love with this song and this video. Notice that they prop Mark Ronson up on the top of the car and doesn't really have much rhythm. But that doesn't matter because the song is so funkay. Yes, I actually typed the word Funk-ay! :) See the video below:

8:15 Marsha got someone to pay it forward with her coffee this morning...score!!! Marsha went to Dunkin Donuts this morning and when she got to the window, the person in front of her had paid for her coffee. Doesn't that make it cool? It puts a smile on my face and makes me believe in humanity again! Pay it forward baby!

One last Super Bowl thing...okay two, What else you can do with lip balm, Cure f

5:45 I love that young people don't know who Missy Elliott is. After her amazing performance at the Superbowl, people had to google her and tweeted about who is she? (I'm going to sound old here but whatevs). Just because they person is not an artist you are familiar with, it doesn't mean that that the person is a new artist. Ugh. It's the same situation as when Kanye West did a song with Paul McCartney and many iof the same types of comments were made. Ah youth. The world did not arrive until you got here. Same with music. Ha.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2015/02/02/missy-elliot-rapper-super-bowl-halftime/22738645/

Also, this was published on Thursday, Jan 29th. Ooops. Thursday 02:52PM Jan. 29, 2015 PT

AFTER 50,000 SUPER BOWL SIMULATIONS, IT'S CLEAR WHO'S GOING TO WIN

Using a very complicated computer model, which ran 50,000 simulations of the upcoming Seahawks-Patriots Super Bowl game, PredictionMachine.comsays the Seattle Seahawks will defeat the New England Patriots.

When running the simulations, the Seahawks won 57.3 percent of the time.

The machine even went so far as to calculate each key player's average projected stat line. For example, Russell Wilson will throw for roughly 197.5 yards, while Tom Brady will throw for roughly 235.1 yards on Sunday.

Take that to the bank. Or not. (CBSNews) I wonder if the Prediction Machine is now in the trash? Ha!

6:15 You may wonder how I came to this... I was getting coffee with a friend recently and she pulls out a tube of lip balm and starts rubbing it on her cuticles. I was thinking, that's such a good idea, especially when you're at the end of the tube. Here are some other cool uses. ODD USES FOR LIP BALM:
Only using your lip balm on your lips? What a waste!
Apply on dry knuckles, knees, elbows, cuticles, hair-ends.
Groom your unruly eyebrows or moustache.
Shine your leather shoes. Buff with a dry cloth.
Lubricate tracks of drawers or windows for smoother opening and closing.
Apply to face to prevent windburn while skiing.
Lubricate threads of outdoor lightbulbs for easier removal when they need replacement.
Dab a small amount on minor nicks & cuts to stop bleeding.
Apply to nails/screws to make penetration into wood easier.
Use to remove a stuck ring from your finger.
Lubricate a zipper for smoother zips.
Apply to dry and irritated nostrils that are sore after excess nose-blowing during a cold.
Mix with eye shadow to make cream eye shadow.
Apply along hairline when dying hair to prevent stains on skin.

7:15 SCIENTISTS MAY HAVE FOUND A CURE FOR BALDING

To all you guys dealing with hair loss, your ship might have finally come in.

Researchers in San Diego might have actually found a permanent cure for balding.

The scientists used stem cells to fire up hair growth and this technique seems to be much more effective than the current method of performing hair transplants.

More tests will need to be conducted, of course, but any breakthrough in this field is welcome by those who are follically challenged. (Telegraph) Wow!

Super Bowl recap with thoughts and spots, Groundhog day, Distracted shopping, te

5:45 FYI...6% of Americans call in sick the Monday after the Super Bowl. Interesting right? To alleviate this do you think the Super Bowl should be held on Saturday to allow for worry-free partying?

Also, there's this:

A recent study tracked the grocery-spending habits of more than 200 households over the course of seven months to see if they were any good at keeping their New Year's Resolutions.

They weren't.

But, the researchers also found something interesting … that Americans consume a spectacular amount of food during the Super Bowl.

When you add up the calories per serving for every food item a household purchased during the week of the Super Bowl, it would equal more than 6,000 calories. That's the largest number of calories for any week through the year, even more than Thanksgiving.

That's a lot of chips and dip. And, pizza. And, chili. And, wings. ( Article was found here at: WashingtonPost) They needed experts to tell me this?

Here are some other interesting Super Bowl Fun facts. http://advertising.about.com/od/superbowlcoverage/a/xxxvfunfacts.htm

6:15 Recap of Super-bowl. I worked, I met a guy, had an impromptu date, went to the party, and we left and walked to another party to go watch halftime. We walked back to just before 2nd half began. I stayed till the end, didn't drink but was exhausted. That was my day.

Highlights:

-Lenny Kravitz is still hot. Still amazingly talented. We needed more Lenny!

-Katy Perry rode in on a crazy horse had lots of costume changes and then got Missy Elliot to come and perform...she was fantastic too.

-The commercials were a bit of a downer. (What's up with the drowning kid spot?)

The domestic violence spot from the NFL was a nice effort, impact. There were some funny spots but I missed many of them because I was late to the game and party. Fun times though. See all the commercials here: http://www.superbowlcommercial2015.com/

7:15 Its groundhog day. Here are some absurd facts that you may not know about Groundhog day. What the heck is "Groundhogese"? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/groundhog-day-five-absurd-facts-you-didnt-know-about-the-mammalbased-festival-10016720.html

Also, do you want to watch the movie Groundhog day? --Great. Here's the schedule:

7:45 Told the story of me going to buy a bottle of dish detergent for work and ending up in the furniture store lying on a mattress contemplating a buy when I really just needed to buy a bottle of detergent. I was going in 8 different directions when I started the break. Unfocused. Tired, started with being tired, calling the artist Andy Grammer the wrong name (Andy Hammer) and I was going to get into the fact that Kim had to tell me that it was raining outside. Can't tell from the window where I sit.

8:15 We now have a text feature. Get on it! You can call or text us at 1-888-7-975-975. We'd love to be in touch with you!

Before 8:30 news Marc and I discussed the Phoenix University retractable Field. This is the field they played the big game on yesterday. They open up one end of stadium and the grass is set on a rolling machine and it goes outside. Then they leave the grass outside to get sun and water and they bring it back in. The whole process takes about 1:45 minutes. Crazy. So cool. Look at it here.
