Labor Day Stats, Love American Style, Blue Moon, and Friday Toys!

Can you believe it's the last day of August? Wow!  Call Florence and the Machine...Dog Days are Over!


Tonight make sure to take a look at the moon. We won't have another one until 2015!  We'll have a blue moon which doesn't really mean the moon is blue, it just means that we'll have more than two full moons in the span of a month. See more about this rarity of nature here.

So I don't even remember what it is I was doing yesterday but I started thinking about the TV show Love American Style. It was a comedy show with the theme of love in the 1970's. Here's a video clip of the it's most groovy theme song!




Friday Toy Memory: The game Perfection! I don't know if it has an exclamation point but this game should. It scared the bejebus out of me every time I played it as a kid. I've included a video so you can refresh your memory of how the game works. I also find it funny that the guy who posted the video put this... "I've had this game tucked away in my closet for years. Each time I decide to dig it out it still scares me (and anyone else who plays it!)."



Since Labor Day is coming up on Monday, I found some stats on the workforce. I was particularly surprised at the number of people working from home from the last census findings. Interesting. Read below...



As you know, Labor Day falls on September 3rd this year. The first observance of Labor Day is believed to have been a parade of 10,000 workers on September 5, 1882, in New York City, organized by Peter J. McGuire, a Carpenters and Joiners Union secretary. By 1893, more than half the states were observing “Labor Day” on one day or another, and Congress passed a bill to establish a federal holiday in 1894. President Grover Cleveland signed the bill soon afterward, designating the first Monday in September as Labor Day. The U.S. Census Bureau offers some facts and figures about Labor Day:

155.2 million: Number of people 16 and older in the nation’s labor force in June 2012.

85.0%: Percentage of full-time workers 18 to 64 covered by health insurance during all or part of 2010.

5.9 million: The number of people who worked from home in 2010.

25.3 minutes: The average time it took people in the nation to commute to work in 2010. Maryland and New York had the most time-consuming commutes, averaging 31.8 and 31.3 minutes, respectively.
