Day to Serve, Computer Scams and Friday Toys!

I love it when you get to Friday morning and you feel that surge of energy knowing that the weekend is almost here!

Today, Hans came in and mentioned that today is the "Day to Serve" where residents have been left a little thingy on their door handle to encourage helping out local food bandks. Day to Serve is a regional and interdenominational collaboration, not only across the state of West Virginia but also in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Leaders have come together to urge their constituents to volunteer on Saturday, September 29th which has been designated a "Day to Serve". The day culminates a month long push for service in communities. On their website DaytoServe.org, there are lists of things that you can do to help. Check out the site here.

Friday Toy Memory: Tetherball. Nothing like a pole, with a rope, with a ball attached for hours of fun! We waited in lines 6 deep to play that dumb game. I loved it!!!! The picture on the left shows the intensity of this game and it's enthusiasts! You'll notice the one kid cheering for one of the players.

I also figured out what movie it was that had a tetherball scene...Napoleon Dynamite!

Police warn of computer scam.

Washington County Sheriff's Office is warning of a potential phone scam.

At least one person in the county has received a phone call from someone claiming to be with Microsoft, according to the office.  The caller gave the person instructions on how to "fix" their computer, directing them to websites and file downloads. Then the person may ask for $xxx.xx because they "fixed" the computer. Police are urging residents DO NOT PAY anyone who calls you with this information.

They advise folks to always be cautious if they receive a call like this.
