The West Virginia Morning Show

Thanks for tuning in!

Hi, I'm Rona...and I'm pretty random. I blurt out things that come to mind. Sometimes funny, sometimes serious. Tune in to find out what I mean. Drop me a line at!

Let it go...not so fast! IRS Robocall Scams, Nail Biters are Perfectionists?, Pe

5:45 The world stopped for a brief moment recently when Disney officially announced plans to produce a sequel to Frozen. The first film's directors (Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck) are developing the project. A release date and production details are yet to be announced. This means you'll be hearing more "Let It Go" than ever before. Lucky you! The film made over $1 billion at the box office and is animated record-breaker for Disney.

6:15 The other day, I was cleaning out my voice mails and I had like 3 calls from different "people" claiming to be IRS. They used terms such as:

  • Felony
  • Lein on your property
  • Arrested...etc etc blah blah

Well, come to find out that this is a scam and that those types of calls are on the increse. If you've ever gotten calls that sound like this, then you need to report them! Check out a few sites that tell you what to do. Go to IRS.GOV or call the FTC's site: Report the incident to TIGTA online or at 800-366-4484.

7:15 I guess that means that if you're a fidgeter, you're a perfectionist? So if you bite your nails, twirl your hair or other repetitive behavior, these things may explain that you're a perfectionist. So says a new study from University of Montreal. According to the article I read it says:

"People who are generally impatient, or who get bored or frustrated easily, are more likely to engage in repetitive body-focused behaviors such as skin-picking, nail-biting or eyelash-pulling, the researchers found.

The study, published in the March issue of the Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry, points to perfectionism -- a trait that can be more damaging than many people realize -- as an underlying cause."

7:30- This is the perfect hangover cure isn't it? For $19, you can buy a Bloody Mary with a slice of cold pizza in it

7:45 Hans (almost 3 year old) decided to open an Oreo cookie by twisting it open. How did he know to do that?

8:15 They look like they are having the time of their lives!!!!! So cool.

This is awesome ... some real-life "Golden Girls" at the Pleasant Pointe assisted living home in Ohio bared (almost) all in a calendar to raise money for charity. This calendar isn't about humor – it's about sexy 80- and 90-year-old women showing their stuff and raising money for kids in need.

For 12 you can see 98-year-old Miss January in her birthday suit, holding a medicine ball that covers all her unmentionables, while 88-year-old Miss March is wearing just a green top hat and a smile. These women prove you can be sexy at any age! You can order a calendar here. I saw this story on ABC News but you can also find it here on: (

Radon Radio station?, Health Myths from Mom-debunked!, Hot Sauce Saved this guy'

5:45 We've got radon testing units set up in the radio station. They're a little scary. If you're like, "yeah, who cares". Radon can be dangerous. We've alwasys knowns there is radon in the basement but we don't know how much. Now we have this thing set up and testing the air, and this sign on all of our doors.

*sorry it's upside down, I couldn't figure out how to rotate the pics! sad

• "It takes twice as many muscles to frown as it does to smile." – False. It takes 11 muscles to frown and 12 to smile, but the muscles used in smiling might actually be more toned because we use them more often.
• "All that sugar is bad for your skin." True. Sugar causes your body to produce more insulin, which can inflame your skin, resulting in acne and/or other skin weirdness.
• "If you crack your knuckles, you'll get arthritis." False. It's actually only the sound of bubbles bursting in your synovial fluid, the liquid that lubricates your joints.
• "Feed a cold, starve a fever." False. An old wive's tale since at least 1574. We now know that starving yourself is never the way to heal an illness. Your body needs energy to fight it.
• "Don't eat too quickly! It's unhealthy." True. Eating quickly has now been linked to indigestion, overeating, and acid reflux.
• "Coffee stunts your growth." False. A myth propagated by an ad campaign for the early 20th Century breakfast drink 'Postum'. The idea was to deter young people from swilling java.

An Illinois man is crediting a hot sauce with saving his life, even though he'll likely never eat the sauce again.

30-year-old Randy Schmitz was at a novelty hot sauce shop and tried a small sample of a hot sauce called Flashbang. It contains a concoction of some of the hottest peppers in the world and comes bottled in a grenade. Well, it was so hot that it triggered a seizure and sent him to the hospital. While there, doctors performed an MRI on him and discovered a brain tumor.

Doctors told him they didn't know how long he'd had the tumor, but were sure that if the hot sauce hadn't triggered a seizure, it wouldn't have been detected until much later, if at all. It probably would have been too late for him. But since his tumor was caught early enough, he was able to successfully undergo surgery, radiation and chemotherapy and is now cancer free. And he got it all taken care of right before his wedding. Schmitz has since written a letter to the company saying, "Your Flashbang Pepper Sauce SAVED MY LIFE!!!!" (New York Daily News)

Apparently there are some adults who are willing to pay a bunch of money to go to pre-school. Mind you, this is not pre-school for their kids … this is preschool for themselves.

Preschool Mastermind in Brooklyn, New York, is an adult preschool – where adults can fingerpaint, play musical chairs, have show-and-tell, and even nap. We kid you not. And they are paying up to $1000 for the experience.

According to founder Michelle Joni, "People come here and get in touch with their inner child. It's magical."

Moonroof vs Sunroof, How to start convo with anyone, Right hand/Left hand confus

5:45 You probably heard me talk about this stuff earlier this week...I'm in a rented car right now. I was thinking deep thoughts. This is perplexing...

What's the difference between a 'sunroof' and a 'moonroof' on a car?

• A 'sunroof' is a retractable roof panel (often made of the same material as the body of the car) that lets light or air into an automobile. The first cars to offer this feature were made by the Nash Motor Company in 1937.

• A 'moonroof' is just a sultry term for a glass sunroof that lets light in while closed. The term was most likely invented by Ford Motor Company in 1973 to describe the sliding glass hatches on its Lincoln Continental Mark IV … which were made by the American Sunroof Company.
(So, if you want to be precise about it, a 'moonroof' is a type of 'sunroof', but a 'sunroof' is not always a 'moonroof'.) – Sourced from Mental from "Kelly Blue Book"

6:15 How to Strike up a conversation with anyone... from Time (like I have a problem with that). Kidding.

1. Be open
2. Become a storyteller

Master storytellers captivate strangers through compelling tales. Everyone has a story to tell. Your story makes you human and reveals your personal truth. An emotional narrative will help build rapport and develop the foundation for a professional relationship. Stories also illustrate your unique approach to business, and can help establish your authority as an entrepreneur.

3. Show genuine interest
It's important to tell your story, but it's equally critical to discover the stories of those around you. Ask the right questions and give new acquaintances time to open up. One of my favorite questions to ask is, "If you weren't in this line of work, what would you be doing?" Most people enjoy talking about themselves and will appreciate your interest. You'd be surprised at how quickly people then reveal their own backgrounds, philosophies and motivations.

The rest of the list has some really good points. Check it out!

7:15 Do you struggle to tell your left from your right hand?

26% of college students can't tell their left from their right. I have to actually think about it. Otherwise, I get confused and say the wrong thing even if I want to....

The article goes into why that might be and some factors that make it so that people can't tell their right from their left...even adults. So read up, it's interesting!

7:45 Poor Frances...

A London pub has had to cut off one of its most loyal customers after she repeatedly got drunk and violent with other patrons. But what did they expect? She's a pig.

A four-year-old pot-belly pig, named Frances Bacon, has been allowed to live inside the pub since she was only a few weeks old, but will no longer be allowed near the bar because she started stealing drinks and headbutting customers. Sounds like a real hooligan.

The owners of the pub say the regulars enjoy seeing the beer-sipping swine, but many of them have been feeding her beer and snacks. Frances Bacon will continue to live at the pub, but customers are being told to refrain from giving her any drinks. (Read more about this pub buster: Daily Mail)

Not sure if this is good or bad news, but Diageo Plc, the company behind Smirnoff vodka, Tanqueray gin, and Guinness beer is going to start listing alcohol content, calories, and other nutritional info on its bottles of booze. Oh joy! Read the article here:

8:45 Friday Toy Memory- Beauty Shop Doll Heads

Do you remember these doll heads. The ones with the hair that you could style yourself when you were a little girl? We could curl the air, (and sometimes we would cut the hair), and then curl the hair with a curling iron and melt it. I guess we never thought that it wasn't going to grow back. Here's a pic of one of those beauty dolls. Ha!

Here's an example of one of those doll heads:

1D News! Swimsuit shopping--Stats, NCAA invention, What's "Sharenting"?, Buh bye

5:45 Zayn Malik is leaving One Direction. Console your daughters now.

What's worse than swimsuit shopping? Not much, apparently. A survey found that 70% of Americans would rather go to the dentist, do their taxes, sit in the middle seat on an airplane, or visit their in-laws than go swimsuit shopping.

60% of women and 46% of men say they aren't ready for this year's swimsuit season. And when asked to pick their problem area between abs, butt, arms and thighs, three in 10 women said "all of the above."

More than 30% of women say they plan on wearing cover-ups when at the beach or pool and one in five say they'll avoid the beach entirely. (Interesting that Anytime Fitness has something to do with this study!)

March Madness is big – and it seems to only be getting bigger.

Last weekend, the NCAA Tournament had the highest ratings in 22 years for CBS Sports and Turner Sports, up a full 7% from last year.

So even though games are spread out on different channels, including cable channels TBS and TruTV, record numbers of people are tuning in to watch the madness.

And tonight, you'll get another four games:

(7) Wichita St. vs. (3) Notre Dame

(4) North Carolina vs. (1) Wisconsin

(5) West Virginia vs. (1) Kentucky

(6) Xavier vs. (2) Arizona (

That said...

This March Madness, a blast from a ref's whistle will instantly stop the game clock, thanks to a new technology that detects the whistle, even when the crowd is screaming and yelling.

It seems that old school whistles – with the little pea inside – had problems when the referee blew too hard or when spit collected in the chamber.

Those whistles were gradually replaced with a different design that funnels the breath through three chambers, which combine to create a steady, three-toned screech.

And this season the NCAA is syncing up that screech to a gadget that automatically stops the game clock. Tests show that the speed of the system, which stops the clock faster than the average human operator, could add up to 30 seconds of playtime to a typical college game, which means 30 more seconds of action! (NYTimes)

7:15 Read the whole Magilla here:

Before, photos of children filled private photo albums at home; now, those snapshots fill social media feeds before the kids are old enough to have their own accounts. "

Sharenting," a term coined by researchers at the University of Michigan to describe parents who crowdsource advice and post photos of their children via social media, has made the lives of young children very public. A new survey from the University's C.S. Mott Children's Hospital investigated this new parenting trend in its National Poll on Children's Health: Researchers found that some parents worry about their oversharing counterparts.

It's a thing. How do you tell someone to knock it off? But is it a good thing? Read the whole Magilla here:

Getting rid of a double chin could soon be an injection away.

An injection called ATX-101 is supposed to target the fat cells in the neck to get rid of the dreaded double chin.

The solution contains deoxycholic acid, which, apparently, eliminates fat cells.

The drug is very near FDA approval and could be available later this year. (Yahoo)

8:15 Grrrr. I'm NOT happy about this. I guess that tells you which camp I'm in!!!!!

There are two types of people in the world … Those who put the toilet paper roll on so the paper hangs in front of the roll and those who put it on with the paper hanging behind.

Less desserts, Just not that into you, New Baby Smell has been bottled, The dino

Americans are eating less dessert. But it's not because we are being more health-conscious or cutting back on sugar. We're still eating sweets – we're just not eating a traditional "dessert." The sad fact is that families are not sitting down to eat dinner together anymore – so that dessert at the end of the meal is as rare as a meal without someone on their iPhone.

"People don't have the time for dinner that they used [to]," said Harry Balzer, of market research group NPD. "And dessert is seen as the least important part of the dinner meal." (Read the details here:

6:15 Signs that he just isnt that into you....from

I know I'm guilty of ignoring the signs that a guy isn't into me. #1 being a BIGGIE!!!! Check out a few here then click below to read the whole magilla!

Bad sign #1: It takes him longer than 24 hours to return your calls
Excuses women use to explain his behavior: Because the non-returned phone call has become the most obvious and frequent example of the lukewarm dater, the range of tortured explanations that have sprung up around it is impressive. "Two of my girlfriends have eerily identical afflictions," says an old girlfriend of mine. "Both continue to find bedrock explanations to support their guys' behavior. They say, and I quote: 'I think I must just really intimidate him', and 'He doesn't call when he has free time because he doesn't want to look like he has free time', and 'He knows I'm The One but just doesn't want to grapple with the idea of settling down yet.'"

Reality check: Now, there have been times when I've been dating a woman and it's taken me a day or so to return her calls. And if everything else between the two of you is sobbing violins and rose bushes, if he's professing his love to you and asking when he can meet your parents, and talking about how he'd love to walk with you along the Seine next spring, chalk up the delay in his calling to an emergency, or a crisis at work. But in most cases like this, it hasn't really been string instruments and flowers and talks about trips to Paris, has it? No, the fact is, you really like him, and he's really not so great about getting back to you when you call. A few hours is one thing. The length of a workday is acceptable. More than 24 hours, though, and he hasn't called back? Unless he's an undercover cop or a submariner, it means he's blowing you off.

Bad sign #2: He's never available to meet your friends or family—and you've never met his
Excuses women use to explain his behavior: He's shy. He treasures the time alone with you. He's worried that you'll be disappointed in his friends, or that he won't measure up to your parents' high standards. He has abandonment issues, and he's terrified that if he gets too close to your friends and family (or you to his) that you will leave him, tearing open psychic wounds that might never heal.

7:15 I love Demeter Fragrance Company. They are known for making one-note scents that smell like pretty much anything you can think of, is introducing a new one … a New Baby's. What's it smell like? As any mom knows, a baby's head has a combination of scents: Clean skin, a hint of Johnson & Johnson shampoo, and perhaps a dairy undertone. A lot of people identify with the fragrance, but would you want to dab it on? It seems Demeter's mission is to catalogue every single scent that exists on this planet. Some of its previous fragrances have included: Clean Laundry, Cotton Candy, Crayon, Dirt, Gin & Tonic, Holy Water, Pizza, Rain, and … Spring Break. (The aroma of a wet T-shirt?) – I got the original article in Allure Magazine. Check out the page for Demeter Fragrances.

Here is their description of New Baby:
New Baby is a light, bright, transparent and sheer fragrance, with slight lemony touches and an underlying creaminess. This is one of the most beautiful, and most complex, Classic fragrances Demeter has ever produced.

Despite its complexity, New Baby is in the Classic Library because it is linear, meaning that it expresses its nature immediately and does not change over time. That means in addition to being beautiful in its own right, it will also add depth and complexity to many personal blends.

New Baby has been a white whale of Demeter Fragrance Library, a fragrance that took 15 years to bring to market. It is almost a relief to launch this fragrance, a concept that someone asks us for each and every week.

Scientists have discovered a very, very old specimen of grass that dinosaurs lived off of.

The cool thing about this grass is that it contains a fungus from which LSD was derived.

This means dinosaurs roaming the earth might have been tripping on acid.

As if dinosaurs weren't scary enough. Maybe weave that plot twist into the next Jurassic Park movie …

Because of the chemical on this grass, dinosaurs might have been dealing with hallucinations, delirium, and convulsions. Those acid flashbacks must have been

In Alpharetta, Georgia, cops conducted a "surprise raid" on a bar called Pepperoni's Tavern and arrested 23 people because they were betting on March Madness games.

It's shocking – shocking! – that anyone would even think of putting money down on these games and tarnish the integrity and morality of this pure sporting event.

Shame on those 23 scoundrels in Alpharetta, Georgia, for muddying these pure, crystal clear waters.

And thank you to the fine law enforcement officials of Alpharetta for getting those hooligans off the streets.

In Case You Missed It ... According to the American Gaming Association, approximately $9 billion are expected to be wagered on March Madness. It seems the 23 people busted in Georgia are not alone. (Read the article here: AJC)

1st day of Spring, Kids react to VCR, Throw away your stuff!, Delish artery clog

5:45 You wouldn't know it by looking out the window but, it's the First Day of Spring. So each year, Rita's Italian Ice does you a solid and gives you FREE RITA'S!!!!!! Get the deets here:

Because I love food (and you should too)... tomorrow is National Corn Dog Day. Go here, get corn dogs, and eat your little corn-dog heart out!!

6:15 These kids really are stinking cute. They react to a VCR/VHS.

Most of us remember the days when watching a movie meant driving to Blockbuster, renting a tape, bringing it home, watching it on a VCR and rewinding it (be kind rewind) then driving back to Blockbuster to return it. Most of today's kids, however, have had access to DVD and Blu-ray players — not mention Netflix and Hulu — for most of their lives, so VCRs are a totally foreign phenomenon. Give a kid a VCR and hilarity ensues.

7:15 Now that we are in the first day of spring. Spring Cleaning is something we might all have on our minds. Sometimes it's hard to know when you should pitch certain things. Here is a pretty handy list of things you should replace.

Also, this is included in the story but..I need this one about the makeup!

Ewww. Your Beard., Cleaning out your Closet and organization, Ikea's new chargin

5:45 Ewww. Your beard is gross!

Beards might be fashionable these days, but they're also massive bacteria traps.

Even when guys wash their beards, bacteria clings to the hairs remarkably well. And then they multiply. Which is a problem.

Hair around the nostrils and mouth are especially gross. If someone has a runny nose, you're dealing with trickle down mucus.

Food and drink can dribble down too.

Not a good look. (Read the whole story on DailyMail)

Spring will be here tomorrow, so how about we get started on that Spring Cleaning?

Here are some stats, compiled by Women's Health magazine, that will either motivate you to finally clean out that closet – or convince you to put it off for a while:

  • 34% of women say they would rather go to the dentist for a cleaning that organize their bedroom closet.
  • 25% of clothes never leave the hanger in the average woman's closet. The reason? They don't fit.
  • The average woman has 19 pairs of shoes in her closet.
  • 20% of women say they will never toss their wedding dress.
  • 32% of women say they equally divide closet space with their significant other.
  • 24% admit that they hog most of the space.
  • 56% of women say they would rather have a big walk-in closet than a big diamond engagement ring.

What's a closet full of new clothes worth? The women surveyed say they would go 15 months without sex for it. Hmm, I'm not sure I'd forego nookie for some clothes!

People were saying that some of them are very organized. Some said they do have their closets separated by color and season. Or long sleeves and short sleeves. I can't even understand that!

Here are some of the text comments I received:

Theresa -suggested taking the clothes to Goodwill because Bon Ton has an annual sale whereby if you donate your clothes to Goodwill, you can get a 25% off coupon to Bon Ton.

Andrea- "Husband got me organizer time for my big walk in closet for birthday. The woman expected me to GET RID of stuff! Umm NO i just want it organized, isn't that your job? Still had to pay her, worst birthday present ever!"

Aby- said that she sometimes organizes the clothes that she is currently wearing by color and shirt length. However, she says that she has a full floor of clothes that she no longer wears. :( I feel ya honey! I too have a lot of clothes in many closets that I don't wear because they don't fit...just like the survey said.

7:15 Continued discussion of closets and organization.

7:45 So Ikea has just changed the game when it comes to charging your electronic devices...They've come up with furniture that will charge your smartphone...and it's built into the table, nightstand etc. Awesome! I want this!

This is a lot less depressing – and a reminder to never give up on your goals ... 91-year-old Barbara Beskind just landed her dream job as a tech designer in the Silicon Valley. Barbara has wanted this job for 80 years.

When Barbara was just 10 years old she discovered her passion for invention when she made a hobby horse out of old tires. From that moment on she wanted to become an inventor. But this was the 1930s – and Barbara was told only men could study engineering. So instead she went into the Army, where she served as an occupational therapist.

But after seeing a news report about design firm IDEO, she decided to send them her resume. "It took me about two months to write my resume, paring it down from nine pages,'' she told the Today show. "Then I wrote the letter and sent it by snail mail." And, yes, she got the job – working on projects related to aging.

She takes public transportation to her job every Thursday – where she is greeted by hugs from her co-workers ... most of them 6 to 7 decades younger than her. (Boildown: Never give up on your dreams y'all)

Pancakebot, What your name means...sorta, What happened to Voice Mail, Madonna r

"5:45 Pancakebot Is The World's First Pancake Printer _ Now Raising Funds On Kickstarter: The Pancakebot, Which Lets You "print" Out Pancakes Into Just About Any Design You Can Imagine. | link This sounds like this will revolutionize breakfast as we know it! Amazing. Move over Mickey Mouse Pancakes!

6:15 There's a new meme online where you go to then you type your name in the search box. Sometimes urbandictionary can be NSFW so do it at your own risk. Here are a few definitions for people in our office:

Here's a little of what I found for Rona:

"Female name, primarily used in Scotland. Comes from the masculine form Ronan, meaning baby seal in a mixture of Gaelic and Norse (Ron meaning seal in Gaelic). This name is usually reserved for only the coolest and nicest of people.
Oh, don't we all love Rona, the alcoholic. sad"

I like this one better...
"amazing talented girl. beautiful ;) good in bed!! will be the greatest girlfriend you could want. Is sometimes a bit too goby and drinks a bit much but is great at a party. faithful trustworthy and hilarious. can get giddy but is an allover good one!"

Here are a couple for Hans:

"A person who is consistently bad ass mo-fo."
That guy was a total Hans, not a Poser like you.

"super hot guy who is going to be a rockstar person someday, but he says he doesnt want to!! hes dating this girl named rebecca and im super jealous of her because hans is the hottest guy in the world!!!!

did you see that guy? he was like a hans.
man, that guy was just like that hans we saw at the party yesterday"

7:15 What happened to voice mail?

Hans came across an article in USA Today that posed the questions: Do you listen to voice mails? Also, do you LEAVE voice mails? Hans said that he doesn't listen to them, because he doesn't have time. I typically do listen to them.
Yeah, I do. If I'm in the middle of leaving it or someone calls me right back, I'm okay with that.

-DJ Called and said, if I call you, I'm calling for a reason. I'll leave a message, because I have something to say, and text just won't suffice. Also if someone leaves her a message, she said, she'll definitely listen to it. "If someone wants to talk with me, I'll listen to the message."

-Caller X said that she also will listen to and leave voice mails. She said she's one of the late adopters of technology and so she doesn't like to text or any of that so voice mails are the way to go for her. Read the USA Today article here.

THIS IS UNRELATED: Madonna still rocks it.

8:15 Can you imagine?

A 95-year-old British man recently ran the 200-meter dash in 55.48 seconds, which broke the record for his age group by over two seconds.

Charles Eugster also broke the record for the 60-meter dash – and still holds records for both the outdoor 100- and 200-meter dashes, which he set last year.

"I hoped getting fit would stop me aging," Eugster said during a previous interview. "It was pure vanity, really. I looked a mess and I was having a late-life crisis. My body was degenerating. I thought: 'Who knows about muscles?' So, when I was 87, I joined a bodybuilding club."

So, what have you done for your health lately? (Telegraph)

I know I need to take my butt to the gym after reading that!!!

That's an oooold pretzel, Bracket madness, Paddy's NOT Patty's Day!!!!!, No sel

6:15 I know nothing about sports. I don't know who is playing in the NCAA Championships. No idea. So...If I had to fill out a bracket, it would suck! Since I live in Maryland and love working in West Virginia, I'm going to throw those two teams in to my bracket...but seriously. No idea. Look at these stats about what people will be doing this season: AN ESTIMATED 70 MILLION BRACKETS WILL BE FILLED OUT DURING MARCH MADNESS

According to the American Gaming Association, an estimated 40 million Americans will fill out more than 70 million brackets – and bet approximately $9 billion on the NCAA tournament this year.

Amazingly, this $9 billion is more than double what was bet on the Super Bowl, which "only" saw $3.9 billion dollar's worth of action.

The report from the American Gaming Association also pointed out that the total number of brackets expected to be filled out this year will be greater than the number of ballots cast for President Barack Obama in the 2012 election.

So, have fun and good luck. (ESPN)

Marcus Campbell – who runs the @paddynotpatty Twitter account – is on a mission to get people to stop calling St. Patrick's Day "St. Patty's Day."

He insists that it's "St. Paddy's Day" – with D's, not T's – because of the Irish spelling of the name: Pádraig.

He takes most of his potshots on Twitter at "Irish" theme pubs who are getting it wrong.

And, don't try to argue with him because he's right, and he knows it.

"There isn't a sinner in Ireland that would refer to a Patrick as 'Patty.' It's as simple as that," he says. (MarketWatch)

Haulin Oates--No Go! Narc necklace, Dude give me a break!, Crazy Cars, Wedding c

5:45 Uh Oh, Haulin Oates is a no-go!

So if you want to name your granola, it's best not to name it after 70's Super Group Hall and Oates...or you're going to get sued. Unfortunately, an upstart in Brooklyn didn't know that. Now Hall and Oates is suing the company that created Haulin Oates. Read the article on Rolling Stone's site:

6:15 Why write down everything you eat when you can just wear a necklace that will do it for you?

Look at this thing...

WearSens is a metal ring that you wear round your neck to monitor everything you eat.

It has built-in sensors that are triggered by vibrations in your throat when you eat and drink. You just sync it to your phone, which buzzes if you go over your daily calorie limit.

The device, which was created by engineers at UCLA, also lets you know if you eat too much of the wrong kind of food or even if you drink or smoke too much.

Co-founder Majid Sarrafzadeh said, "Many nutrition methods are based on writing down what you eat. But this method has low compliance so we wanted to overcome these issues and wanted to do something that a pedometer does for activity." Read the Inquisitr article here:

Man Begs For Donations To Save His Relationship During Spring Break

A man has started a GoFundMe Page in hopes of raising $300 for a plane ticket to Miami so that he could "save his relationship." 25-year-old Maryland resident Azel Prather Jr. says that his girlfriend went to Florida for spring break -- and he is worried that she is going to find a new man. He said, "We have a great thing going and I would hate to see it go down the drain for a little sand and sun. If you can find it in your heart to donate ANYTHING to help save my relationship I would greatly appreciate it."

His campaign has been shared over 1,700 times on social media and was later picked up by
The Washington Post. He told the paper, "I think the sun just melts all the morals in Miami. It's a free-for-all!"

  • He added, "She's posted on Instagram two times and both times she was in a bathing suit and it received more than 200 'Likes.' I asked her to stop. That's too many likes for me." He later wrote on his GoFundMe page, "I should be on that wall beside her. I can tell the Miami sun is doing exactly what I thought it would do. Things have escalated quickly ... Help."

  • After three days, Prather raised $91. Then this past weekend, his campaign received $325 from 24 people.

I don't see the charm in this story. It's a little frightening that this guy can't trust his girlfriend to go away on spring break without him following her. I say, if that's his attitude, then he has bigger issues like, power, control, and jealousy. Sigh. Read the whole thing on

I don't normally go for most of these but some are a little engrained so we do them, whether we believe them or not. Check out this list from List 25.

Here are 20 Crazy Superstitions that people actually believe--

French scientists are reportedly one step closer to being able to enter our brains while we sleep and manipulate our memories.

This would allow them to have the power to erase painful memories – or even turn them into positive ones.

If this freaks you out, don't worry. Yet.

Scientists have a long way to go before they can tap into the human mind.

But when they figure it all out, they might be able to do some incredible things, like reduce the symptoms of trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder. (Get the story on: HuffingtonPost)

According to Census Bureau statistics, the man's name "Gary" is going extinct.

The name has been plummeting in popularity since the early 1950s, when America saw nearly 39,000 baby Garys born.

This is compared to 2013 with only 442 – the lowest since 1928.

The name is now ranked number 578 in America.

It's the end of an era, so hats off to Gary Busey, Gary Sinise, Gary Oldman and Gary The Snail. (Metro)

Oregon is known for specialty beers. But what about a beer made with sewer water?

Well, "sewage brewage" is exactly what about a dozen local home-brewers will be making this summer.

These home brewers are taking part in a unique experiment. Instead of using normal tap water to make their beer, they'll be using what was once sewer water – and getting this water straight from the treatment plant.

It's all part of a competition Washington County's Clean Water Services is putting on to demonstrate different uses for its recycled water.

The agency says a special purification system is able to make sewer water even cleaner than your typical drinking water.

If they say so …

And when it comes to making beer, the purer the water, the better the brew.

But don't expect to find the brews on store shelves anytime soon. The competition this summer is just for fun.

Or … As fun as drinking beer made from sewer water can be. (Read the full story here: MyArkLaMiss)

Then the Columbia Record and Tape club promised thaty you'd get 11 records for a penny or $1. This of course was a racket. They would get you with the initial offer then automatically send you records. In the end, you owed them for the new music that they sent. This racket was a great idea, until you got yourself into a spiral of payment that you had no way of paying as a youngster. This sentiment is perfectly stated in the article on So on target!

Some researchers insist the benefits of smiling can only be rendered from a genuine expression of happiness, others have found that a forced smile can still make you feel happy, even when your existing mood and surroundings suggest otherwise. It only takes smiling for a brief period of time to experience its benefits -- no matter how contrived it feels initially. In this case, maybe it's OK to fake it a little.

It has so many benefits like:

  • Smiling helps reduce stress.
  • Smiling makes you more approachable.
  • A smile makes you seem more trustworthy.
  • Smiling actually retrains your brain for the better.
  • Smiles are contagious.

How to make employees happy, Don't blow your tax return on this, Viral 365 day m

5:45 I complain a lot about work, we all do but this is a way to look at it in a good way, are any of you happy about where you work?

The magazine noted that, since 1998, the companies on the list have outperformed the S&P 500 stock index by a ratio of almost two to one, according to data from the Russell Investment Group." Elaborate marriage proposals, whether it's done in front of 30,000 fans at a sporting event or with a choreographed flash mob performance, take a lot of careful planning. But Dean Smith pulled of an amazing proposal that took exactly one whole year to pull off.

Dean videotaped himself every single day, for 365 days, holding a white board asking his girlfriend Jennifer to marry him. He started it on January 8th, 2014. Jen, of course, had no idea until January 8th, 2015. They were on vacation in Aruba with their families when Jen's family presented her with a special video to watch. The video begins with Dean explaining, "Jennifer, I love you more than anything in the world. I know that you're the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, but I want the timing to be perfect and make this moment special. For the next year, I'll show you how much I love you and that you're in my thoughts every day. I want to marry you."

She, of course, said "Yes." (People) See the video below (it's a little long but sweet):

7:15 The real reason why we shake hands

Human beings shake hands for the same reason dogs sniff each other's butts. Well, sort of. According to the Guardian, a study conducted at Israel's Weizmann Institute of Science found that people (unknowingly) sniff their hands after a handshake in order to detect clues about a person's identity. A team led by Professor Noam Sobel secretly filmed 280 people before and after they said "hello" to a researcher, sometimes doing so with a handshake. For about 20 percent of the time in which they were filmed, participants were sniffing their own hands both before and after the greeting.

Now that you know this, you might find yourself monitoring whether you do this or not!

The Voice Pt deux, You Lyin to Me?, Gosling's got moves, Could Parents of obese

5:45 Part 2 NBC's The Voice...yay! Local talent. I was this proud when Christian Lopez was on American Idol.

Treeva Wilson and Paul Pfau on NBC's The Voice! I missed him by 5 minutes. Argh. But I'm glad to know he made it onto Pharrell's team. Go Paul! Its neat when you know someone who is going for their dream.

6:15 You lyin to me? Well, now there's a new app that can help you figure that out. Ahh technology... with facial recognition.

A new app called ooVoo analyzes facial expressions to determine whether someone is lying is not. A lot of people are going to be very unhappy about this technological breakthrough.

The app works by reading our facial expressions and then determining whether they are consistent with those often detected in people who aren't being truthful. The American company that came up with this bit of mad genius tech plans to market it to businesses, which can use it while hiring candidates and trying to figure out whether potential partners plan on working with them. They also think it will work well among retailers, whom they say can benefit from seeing how their customers react to products on their shelves. Read the full article here:

7:15 Law To Label Parents Of Obese Kids As Child Abusers

A potential new law in Puerto Rico would hold parents criminally responsible for allowing their chilren to become obese. The law, in an attempt to reduce child obesity, could potentially fine parents of obese kids up to $1,300 and label them as child abusers. They will also be "educated" about the consequences of obesity and their children will be labeled in school.

The childhood obesity rate in the United States hovers at around 17 percent, but in Puerto Rico it has climbed to over 24 percent. Opponents of this law say that while this addresses the obesity crisis, it won't fix the problem. (Cosmo)

People really seemed bothered by the idea that:

  1. The parents would be fined. A few asked what about the schools and their part in childhood obesity? Foods served, what about PE being diminished in schools?

  2. Becky called and said, it's not necessarily that a kid is obese. She said, her son was 200 lbs and 6'4 and very active, he was all muscle but he was labeled as obese. I said she brings up a good point that this could be a slippery slope.

An interesting discussion to be sure. I'm glad it's only something that they are proposing and hasn't come to fruition in Puerto Rico...but even if it did happen, I don't think that this is the way to get children to stop being obese, I think it's a collaborative effort. Just my opinion (as someone who hasn't been a kid in a while and who isn't a parent!--Rona

7:15 School Abolishes Homework, Outrages Parents

A Manhattan public elementary school has outraged parents by abolishing traditional homework assignments. Teachers at P.S. 116 have stopped assigning take-home worksheets and essays and are telling kids to play, read books and spend time with their families instead. The new policy has parents worried that their kids won't learn enough. Some are so concerned that they've threatened to pull their children out of school and others are filling the gap by creating their own homework assignments. However, the school principal defends the new policy saying, "You may be surprised to learn that there have been a variety of studies conducted on the effects of homework in the elementary grades and not one of them could provide any evidence that directly links traditional homework practices with current, or even future, academic success."

(Sidenote: when I mentioned this on the air, I had no idea that people would be that passionate about letting the kids play. That was the overwhelming response from you guys, "let 'em play!"

6:15 Ways to make daylight saving time less miserable

Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, which means we will be setting out clocks an hour ahead. That extra light at night is going to be great – but it may take a few weeks to get used to losing that hour of sleep in the morning.

One way to make the transition easier is to go to bed earlier – starting tonight. If you go to bed 15 minutes earlier tonight, then 15 minutes earlier than that on Thursday and so on, by Saturday night you will be going to bed a full hour earlier. Doing that will, hopefully, help with the one hour of sleep you'll be losing on Sunday morning … or, really, Monday morning when we have to go to work. Read all the tips here on

8:15 Whiskey swilling women are the new black!

More and more women are reaching for whiskey. According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, sales of vodka have dropped in the last two years after a decade of dominance.

Women are staying away from such brands as Smirnoff and Absolut – and choosing whiskey instead.

This is especially interesting because there are hundreds of new sweet-flavored vodkas out there, everything from whipped cream to cake to berries.

They're not selling very well. Instead, whiskey is rolling – and there's really nothing "sweet" about whiskey.

Felon Bae is back, America's sleeping habits, 50% Friday deals, Turtlebid deals

6:15 Felon Bae is back!

You knew this was going to happen. Remember Jeremy Meeks, the guy who was called "Hot Convict or Felon-bae" after his mugshot went viral last summer?

Well, even though he was sentenced to up to two years in prison in February, he has signed with an agent and plans to go from a life behind bars to a life in front of the camera.

"I'm in a place where I will be able to provide for my family and really change my life," he told ABC News. "I never thought that everyone in the world would recognize me for my looks, so I feel extremely blessed and very thankful."

Meeks says he wants to give both modeling and acting a try. "I wish I could be on a show like Sons of Anarchy," he said. Crime may not pay – but having a hot mugshot definitely does ... (Huff Post, ABC News)

7:15 - 5 Things you didn't know about American's sleeping habits (some of this is scary stuff)

1. Sleeping is a HUGE problem in the United States. It's so bad that roughly 30% of American workers sleep less than six hours a night, according to NSF.

2. It's even worse for people who work the night shift: Around 44% of American night-shift workers are sleep-deprived.

5. Healthy people sleep approximately 18–23 minutes longer than those who experience chronic pain.

Marilyn Manson and his dad, Babysitter by app?, Wild requests at hotels, Ways to

5:45 I saw a fairly creepy but kinda funny thing on Marilyn Manson and his dad took matchy matchy pics in makeup. Enjoy (don't eat beforehand).

6:15 What's the hardest part of having a date night--Getting a babysitter?

The person who's going to look after your kids might be waiting on the other side of your smartphone. At least, that's the idea behind fledgling Canadian start-up 'DateNight', which aims to match parents with babysitters through a downloadable app. To be clear – the company doesn't employ babysitters, it merely helps people connect with them. Prospective sitters and parents have to give references to be included in the app's database. They are then screened in interviews. The app, which is still in the process of being launched in Toronto, may spread if its test run is successful. (Whether you're the parent or the sitter … would you trust a stranger?)

Read more about this thing here:

Would you trust your kids to a babysitter you found through an app?

People texted in simply: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I had to laugh.

When traveling, most people stay at "normal" hotels and make normal requests of the staff.

But rich people are different – and when they stay at high-end hotels, they have been known to make outrageous requests … that the hotels do their best to fulfill.

Here's a rundown of some of the wildest hotel guest requests ever made:

  • For a llama to roam the hotel grounds – At the Grand Del Mar in San Diego, a guest asked that his friend's llama be allowed to roam the hotel property. The hotel allowed it.

  • A last-minute wedding gown repair – A bride staying at the Jefferson in Richmond, Virginia, needed her wedding dress re-hemmed, so she brought it to the hotel team at MIDNIGHT before the big day. A seamstress was contacted and, amazingly, had the dress fixed by morning.

  • A private jet flight to a town with no airport – A family emergency arose for a guest at the Jefferson in Washington, D.C., so the hotel tracked down a private jet and convinced the pilot to land in a "safe area" that was not an airport runway because there was no nearby airport runway.

  • Penguins waiting in the room – The staff of the Four Seasons Resort in Hawaii couldn't arrange to have penguins waiting for the guests upon arrival because, you know, that's illegal. (Thrillist)

When you're at a hotel, are you high-maintenance? Do you try to max out the value you're getting by squeezing the hotel and the staff for everything you can? If not, what do you think of people who do this?

I'm not, I don't. I think they're jerks! :) --Rona

Social media makes you relax, National Free Pancake Day! Outlaw Yoga pants? The

Facebook and Twitter can help you de-stress … but only if you're female. Academic researchers say they were taken aback by the surprise result of their study. Experts at the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project think it may be because women tend to use social media to communicate with family & friends and to feel community support. In addition, women who are responsible for 'maintaining household family relationships' save time by completing the task using social media. It's also thought that women tend to be far more active sharers on social media, and no matter whether positive or negative events are shared, the very act of sharing lowers levels of stress. Tight-fitting clothing—like yoga pants, for example—could also be considered indecent exposure under the law, the Republican lawmaker said. "Yoga pants should be illegal in public anyway," Moore said after the hearing.

Under current laws in Montana, a person convicted of indecent exposure three times could get a life sentence in jail. Moore's bill lessens that sentence to a maximum of five years in jail and a $5,000 fine.Moore drafted the bill after the Bare as you Dare nude bicycling event rode through Missoula last summer, angering residents.

So we've all seen that "What color is this dress?" meme – there was no escaping it. But it's not white or gold or blue or black … the real color of this dress is green. That's because ever since it appeared on everyone's newsfeed on Thursday, sales of the actual dress – which is blue and black, by the way – have skyrocketed. According to Roman Originals, the company that makes the dress, sales are up 350%. (Read the story here on: Fortune)

8:15 The office becoming a thing...a very awkward thing.

Cafeterias, lounges and even gyms are all becoming commonplace in American office buildings. But now some companies are upping the awkward factor by installing office showers.

Costing anywhere from $5,000-$150,0000, office showers are often placed somewhere between the main cubicles and the bathrooms and allow employees to rinse off after hitting the gym or a bike ride at lunch.

But not everyone is on board with office showers, as some people see them as an HR nightmare. Read it here on the Wall Street Journal:

5:45 There is a test of wills going on. There's a window in our studio and I have climbed over the console so that I can see out of the window and see the weather. Someone has all of a sudden decided that they don't like this window blinds being open. So now it has become a test of wills between who will open it and who will keep it closed. Game on!

6:15 I know we're all done with snow these days but I still wanted to share these

As well as snowflakes, snow can also precipitate as graupel (pellets) or sleet.
It's a myth that no 2 snowflakes are exactly the same. Identical snow crystals were discovered in 1988.
The largest-ever snowflakes are said to have measured 15 inches (38 cm) across, but that 1887 claim has never been substantiated.
Snow is translucent, not white. It's the light reflected off a snowflake's faceted surface that creates its white appearance. Deep snow can often appear blue.
• In order to be classified as a 'blizzard', a snowstorm must include winds of at least 35 mph (56 km/h), reducing visibility to less than a quarter-mile (400 m) for a period of at least 3 hours.
An intense snowfall accompanied by strong winds that only lasts a short time is officially called a 'snow squall'.
In 2011, 22,022 people at 130 different locations in Nova Scotia plopped down on the ground to simultaneously to make 'snow angels' … a world record.
The largest snowball fight on record took place in Seattle WA, when 5,834 people exchanged frozen barrages on January 12, 2013.

7:15 As a single person, I have botched a date or two in my day. So what I found were some surefire tips to ruin a first date: (it's on a site for men but I think many of these things apply across the board).

If you struck out over Valentine's Day Weekend, no problem. There's still fish in the sea. There's somebody for everyone. You know the drill.

If you're looking to hook up with someone new starting right now, here are some things you just can't do on the first date:

  • Show up late – Being late makes you look like an inconsiderate tool. (I guess I am because I'm late for everything).

  • Stay seated when your date walks in – You gotta stand up. It's basic manners. On the other hand, she should stand up when you walk in also.

  • Dodge the first round – It's not fair, but it's the way things are. Guys still have to pay for the first round of drinks.

  • Talk about your ex –Your date doesn't care. You must move on.

Say you're tired – Put on a happy face, champ, and finish this. You can nap when you get home, you wimp. (Metro)

We've all heard the studies that meetings are a waste of time – but now some companies are doing something about it.

According to Atlassian, most employees spend 31 hours a month in unproductive meetings, and at least 50% of employees say these meetings are a complete waste of time.

What do most employees do during these meetings?

-91% daydream,

-75% do other work, and -39% sleep

-47% of employees complained that meetings were the number one time-waster at the office,

Unnecessary meetings cost companies $37 billion a year.

That's why a lot of companies are taking a radical approach … they are dropping meetings altogether. For example, Intel has a rule that no one can hold a meeting without a clear purpose. Many other companies have made them optional. And others are just abolishing meetings completely. Read more at:
