An Interesting Night in Washington DC

Having a hard time thinking about what to blog about the last couple weeks. Lets talk about my trip to Washington DC last week. It was Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Washington Capitals ended up losing 4-3 to the Boston Bruins but that is where the story begins. I had fun at the game of course, but after things became pretty entertaining. I went with my cousin Tony. After a game we normally just get on the Gallery Place Metro (right next to Verizon Center) and go home. However, that night it was too crowded to the point where security would not even let you down. So I decided we should go to a different stop.

A few times in my life I have walked from the National Mall and Smithsonian Metro stop all the way to Verizon Center, so I thought I would just go the opposite route this time and get on at Smithsonian. One more thing I should add is this was a Monday night, so the Metro closes at midnight and the game ended around 10:20. This night it was that unseasonably hot 90 degrees. So we are walking around Washington DC at night, turns out to be a way longer walk to the National Mall than expected. We eventually get there and it is PITCH BLACK. All the museums were dark, only buildings lit up were the Washington Monument and The Capitol Building. It was actually pretty scary. We did not feel safe. Worst of all: The Smithsonian Metro stop closes at 9pm!!!!! It was now 11:00 and we realized we had to think of something fast!

We backtracked and ended up making it to the Archives Metro stop around 11:20 and had to transfer trains but made it home safe and sound. Definitely did not expect to have such an adventure after the game, but it is a fun story to tell. At the actual time? Not as fun. Haha.
