Wobblin
So I'm at an outdoor concert last night and the band starts playing "The Wobble". Don't know what I'm talking about? I hadn't heard of that song until about 2 weeks ago. The fact is, The Wobble is a line dance song that's apparently about 2 or 3 years old. Who knew? Here's a little video showing you how to do it...in slow-mo. Learn it, Do it. Impress your friends and kids.

Top Sport Songs and Friday Toy Memory
Happy Friday y'all! We made it through the oppressive heat yesterday and we have a great weekend ahead. I seem to like talking about the weather don't I?

Here's a random tidbit about me. The other day I was talking to my dad and he told me when I was really small child, I had one of those animals sounds toys where you pull the string and it makes the sound of barnyard animals. Apparently I was a big fan of cats first,  then goats, the cows. I stuck with the cow obsession well through the 80's when it was popular to decorate everything in holstein cow print. Just a tidbit about me. Don't know why I decided to share.

Most Popular Sports Songs

(
Some of the songs on this list are weird to me. Nothing says, "Yeah, I'm a fierce athlete" like Thriller! Just sayin. I've highlighted the ones I think DON'T belong on the list)

A new poll has named Van Halen’s “Jump” as the most popular sports song. PRS for Music recently polled its members to determine the top 20 sports songs for the upcoming Olympics.

1. “Jump” – Van Halen
2. “Start Me Up” – Rolling Stones
3. “Higher & Higher” – Jackie Wilson
4. “Gold” – Spandau Ballet
5. “Thriller” – Michael Jackson
6. “Wake Me Up!” – Wham!
7. “The Winner Takes It All” – Abba
8. “Silver Machine” – Hawkwind
9. “We Are the Champions” – Queen
10. “Shine” – Take That
11. “Tracks of My Tears” – Smokey Robinson
12. “The Long & Winding Road” – The Beatles
13. “Eye of the Tiger” – Survivor
14. “Simply the Best” – Tina Turner
15. “Jump Around” – House of Pain
16. “Gonna Fly Now” – from Rocky
17. “Another One Bites The Dust” – Queen
18. “Don’t Stop Believin’” – Journey
19. “Chariots of Fire” (Theme)
20. “We Will Rock You” – Queen

Friday Toy Memory: I was older than this but I remember this being a craze that I couldn't understand. Remember POGS? They were like little round discs that for some reason people thought it fun to collect. Why? Still dunno. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pogs Here's a video (I didn't preview it so I hope there's no objectionable language )

The changing face of Road Rage!

According to a new survey, women and young people are most likely to experience road rage.

  -  61 percent of female respondents said that they had experienced road rage compared to only 56 percent of males.

 - And, 68 percent of adults aged 25 to 34 admit having incidents of rage, while only 47 percent of those over 55 years old agreed, making them the mellowest group in the study.

Say wah?
I spent much of the morning talking to Dave Allen who is in for Kurt Kronke (who has taken some time off to bond with his very cute baby girl) and talking to Hans Fogle from our sister station WEPM.

First, I have to admit that I am the person who goes in to the office fridge and eats leftover food. Someone left a box of these on the counter. Since I'm a scavenger by nature...I put my grimy little hand in the box and tried a few...these things are only 100 calories for 27 of these delish chips. They're addictive. Now I think I need to buy a box to replace the ones I've eaten. The ones I had were a southwest ranch flavor. Yummers! In case you're looking for these go here!

Teen Talk!

Have you ever heard your teen say something and you had no idea what the heck they were talking about? I got you covered. I came across a Teen Chat Decoder. It's not necessarily for conversation but it can help you decipher what the heck all those abbreviations in their, texts, e-mails, and Facebook statuses mean.  For instance do you know what these abbreviations below mean?

  • 4AYN          For all you know
  • 2MFM        To much for me
  • /myB           Kick my butt
  • NALOPKT Not a lot of people know that
Check out the full list here! Just click the abbreviations.

Some days are Mon-days...
You know how sometimes you can be someplace but your mind is not there. That's been happening to me all too often lately. Soon, someone will catch on!

Are you a person that really wants to follow the Olympics but you've got that pesky work thing to think about? I've got the app for you. It's the: "
London 2012: Official Results App for the Olympic and Paralympic Games"  It's kind of a mouthful but it's sure to give you lost of info about the athletes, their sports and their standings...IN REAL TIME!!!! So you don't have to worry about your boss coming by your desk and seeing you goofing off watching all this Olympic coverage, you can do it discreetly on your phone..hint hint!

Speaking of the Olympics 2012, allow me to name drop a bit.... A friend of a friend of mine coaches a  swimmer who is in London for the games. She is the youngest swimmer on the team and one of the youngest athletes that are competing in the games. Get to know Katie Ladecki. The guy I know is her coach Yuri Suguiyama...go Katie!

So I heard this story the other day when I was waking up. There is a prison in Brazil that decided to use the inmates to create energy. These inmates are allowed to bike on stationary bicycles for a while and produce energy that go into batteries. In exchange, they get a day removed from their sentence.

Interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I guess they are doing some good. I'm not explaining it very well. Read the story here to get a better idea of what it's about. Interesting though.

After I talked about it on the air, Kathy called to remind me that they did the same thing to create energy on Gilligan's Island. I don't remember that and now I'm on an exhaustive search to try and see a video clip of it. Argh!

Chores? Dark Knight Rises, Toy Memory and so much more
So there are gonna be a lot of groggy people in your office today because last night was the midnight showing of  "Batman: The Dark Knight Rises". I know for one, our Chad the Intern (see pic to the left) bought tickets weeks in advance and has been waiting for this movie for 2 years! Did you go? Did you check out theire really cool website for the movie? Here it is if you missed it.

This is message from me and does not reflect that of Prettyman Broadcasting...

I can't go on with the blog without mentioning the sad incident that happened in the movie theater in Colorado. I am so saddened to read and hear the reports of the 14 people that were killed and many others injured when they went to see this movie. I never understand these senseless killings or the mind of people who carry out these acts. I don't think I have words. Just makes me sad.

...back to the blog

Do you get your kids to do chores? Here's a great site you'll want to know about...

ChorePay.com provides a free online tool for parents to organize and centralize their children’s chores. This includes complete money management for the child with goals of education about saving, spending, and donating their earnings. With a free ChorePay account, you and your family create profiles, set up chores, and assign them a cash value. Once a child has completed the chore, money moves from your profile to theirs. They can save for a rainy day, make purchases in the site’s marketplace or become young philanthropists and donate to charity.

I had a random rambling about sleep. It was inspired by the little blurb that I read below. What you need to know about me is that I don't get enough sleep. Nuff said.  Below is "said blurb".

You Snooze You Win

Nearly 70% of adults say they fall asleep within 15 minutes of turning off the light; 30% say it takes them 30 minutes or more. As far as when we hit the sack, 54% say they are in bed between 10 p.m. and midnight; 24% are in between the sheets after midnight; and 22% say they hit the bed before 10 p.m.

Friday Toy Memory- is not a toy at all. It's a TV Show. Do you remember The Greatest American Hero? Here's the theme song video. Also, a bonus is that our very own John Tesh's wife (she wasn't his wife at the time) also starred in this fun 80's show! Here's the wikipedia page.

Today, the coffee kicked in at 7am!
It was like I was sitting here and thinking, what should I talk about most of the morning. Some days are like that when you just don't have anything to say. It's funny, you just wring out your brain for something to say and nothing come to you. Oh well, tomorrow is another day!

I did mention some things...

Every day this week at 6:15, I've been giving away Jiffy Lube Signature Service Oil Change V.I.P Certificates. I've been giving a "Summer Driving Tip". Today's tip was especially important so I'm copying it and putting it here for your use... (I got all these tips from Jiffy Lube, by the way)

Prepare for an Emergency--Pull together an emergency kit to keep in your trunk. Include items such as bottled water, a flashlight, flares, duct tape, batteries, jumper cables, energy bars, a blanket and pair of gloves, emergency phone numbers, first aid supplies and a can of Fix-A-Flat® inflator and sealer. You can never be too prepared!

The other funny little thing I came across was something one of my Facebook friends posted and I thought it was pretty cute... It's below.

Guilty of Multitasking?
I don't know about you but I tend to multi-task. I think now that everything is available on cell phones and so we tend to use them so much more. The problem with multi-tasking with electronics for me is that I never complete a task. Instead, I end up with four tasks started and none finished.  Read this about how people use their mobile/smartphones.

In the new “multiscreen” world, more than half of American adults with mobile phones use them while watching television. According to a Pew study, 52% of all cell phone owners said they had used their mobile devices to do a variety of things while watching TV, including:
  •     38% said they used their phones to keep them occupied during commercial breaks.
  •     23% said they used their phones to text message someone else in another location watching the same show.  (I'm totally guilty of this one!..especially award shows)
  •     22% used their phones to check to see if something mentioned during the show was true or not.
  •    20% said they were checking websites mentioned during the program they were watching.
  •   11% said they were using their phones to see what other people were saying online about a show.
  •     11% said they posted their own comments online about a program they were watching.
  •     Only 6% said they used their phones to vote for a reality show contestant.

Smartphones users were far more likely to interact with televised content on their devices while watching TV than basic feature-phone users.

Dog Wedding... Why
Would you throw your dog a wedding? Um I think it's kind of dumb but I do think it's a great way to raise money for Humane Society (so they get a pass).

New York Dog Wedding Breaks World Record

It  was billed as the pet wedding of the century. Two dogs got married yesterday at an extravaganza to benefit the Humane Society of New York. The bride "Baby Hope Diamond", a Coton de Tulear, was led down the aisle in
her canine couture gown. Her poodle groom was "Chilly Pasternak" from Richmond, Virginia. After they got hitched, the furry couple was presented with a Guinness World Record in the category of most expensive  pet wedding at $158,187.26. The luxury goods and services that went into the wedding were all donated. Guests bought tickets for the Manhattan fundraiser. Baby Hope was adopted by animal welfare activist Wendy Diamond after her beloved Maltese named Lucky died of cancer last month. Lucky herself held a Guinness Record: The animal most
photographed with famous people. The black-tie gala, held at the Jumeirah Essex House Hotel at Central Park, included a celebrity wedding planner, a lighting guru and highly touted chefs for the reception. A  company co-owned by Ellen DeGeneres provided a pet food buffet. The wedding was officiated by Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. See the video here.

Ever wonder whats in the "Special Sauce" on your Big Mac?
Dan Coudreaut, executive chef for McDonald, has revealed the secret behind Big Mac secret sauce. All you need to make the Big Mac sauce is store-bought mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, classic yellow mustard, white wine vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder and paprika. The paprika, Coudreaut said, gives it a little flavor but it also helps to enhance the color. Coudreaut recently made a YouTube video demonstrating that anyone can make the secret sauce in their own home. Check out the video below as he makes it!

I've had too much coffee this morning!
Yeah, I kinda had too much coffee this morning and it shows cause my thoughts are racing a mile a minute and so is my mouth! Lucky for you, the mic is off for part of the day!  :)

Here is the quick n dirty on what I discussed this morning...

Log O Fries--Awesome!
It's Carnival and Fair season. Here are some crazy food combinations that Cooking.com came up with. Have you ever eaten fried butter? Seriously!  Read more here...

If you suffer from allergies like I do, here are some cool tips to help you avoid being affected from Beliefnet.com.  Here's the link.

Two of my faves are:

  •  If you have an airborne allergy, don’t ride in a car with the window open. Run the air-conditioner.
  •  Invest in a neti pot, a small “tea pot” that allows you to flush your nasal cavities with water. Best used in the shower, these devices do take a bit of practice. But neti pots are inexpensive and very effective. Below is a neti pot in use. I love mine!

Friday the 13th, Beach Etiquette, Cookie Monster, Changes in MARC schedule on Mo
Yep! It's Friday the 13th...a-gain. This the 3rd time this year. I'm not superstitious, after all, I had a black cat for years. Anyway, here are 13 things to know about Friday the 13th. Now you can amaze your friends with your useless knowledge of this stuff...

13 Things To Know About Friday The 13th

Today marks another Friday the 13th this year. It’s the year’s third and final Friday the 13th. Friday the 13th has always been reviled as the unluckiest of all the days on a calendar. The International Business Times has compiled a list of tidbits about the date so many fear.

1. A wide range of sources claim that fear of Friday the 13th is the No. 1 superstition held by Americans. The fear can be so debilitating that there is even a treatment center set up to help people overcome it.

2. Friday the 13th is such a terrifying day for some people that a term has been coined for the intense fear of the day: “friggatriskaidekaphobia” or “paraskevidekatriaphobia.”

3. Thirteen people are said to have attended the Last Supper before Jesus died on a cross on a Friday, according to the Bible. The scene is told in John 13:21. Though some say one left before they ate.

4. This year there are three Friday the 13ths, 13 weeks apart, the first one being on January 13th. Most years there are two; last year there was only one – and the fact that they are 13 weeks apart from one another is an exceptional anomaly. It hasn’t happened since 1984.

5. In 1993, a study in a British Medical Journal ran a study called “Is Friday the 13th Bad for Your Health?” that found that though fewer people drove on Friday the 13th than on Friday the 6th over a period of years, there were more traffic accidents on Friday the 13ths. “Friday 13th is unlucky for some,” the study concluded. “The risk of hospital admission as a result of a transport accident may be increased by as much as 52 percent. Staying at home is recommended.”

6. There appears to be no recorded evidence of a fear or superstition regarding Friday 13th before the 1800s. The earliest documented English reference to the day being unlucky was in an 1869 biography by Henry Sutherland Edwards.

7. The Church of Satan rings in Friday the 13th as a day when superstitions grip the pious: “Celebrate Friday The 13th! Today is ‘Friday the 13th,’ and we Satanists enjoy the consternation a simple number can conjure amongst the superstitious,” the church posted on its official website. “So, on this dreaded day, while the credulous cower we sally forth to indulge with gusto. Have a truly splendid day today and an even more enriching night, dear aficionados of the outré!”

8. Rapper Tupac Shakur died on Friday, September 13, 1996, after having been shot seven days earlier. Seven is another number to which much superstitious significance has been lent.

9. President Franklin D. Roosevelt was so superstitious that he refused to ride a train on Friday the 13th, according to Thomas Fernsler, a University of Delaware mathematician so versed in lore about the number that he is known as “Dr. 13.”

10. The word “coven” has long been used to describe a gathering of 13 witches.

11. A Norse myth promises “dire consequences” for people who choose to eat in groups of 13 diners, according to USA Today.

12. Most people know that many buildings have no 13th floor, but some cities go a step further by not even having a 13th Street or 13th Avenue.

13. The Knights Templar, of medieval fame, were imprisoned on Friday the 13th, according to USA Today.

Cookie Monster rocks Call Me Maybe! Yay! Read here. See below.

Have you seen the new Summer Olympic Opening Ceremony Uniforms? They kind of look like a vintage-y flight attendant uniform if you ask me. This is a picture I found from the AP.

Team USA To Be Decked Out In Uniforms Made In China

For the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in London, Team USA be proudly wearing red, white and blue, from beret to blazer, in uniforms crafted by designer Ralph Lauren. However, ABC News found that all the inside labels read: “made in China.” Every item in the uniforms that the U.S. athletes will be wearing at the opening ceremony in London will carry an overseas label, ABC News said. Nanette Lepore, one of the top U.S. fashion designers, said she was shocked that none of the uniforms had been made in the states. She added that it U.S. manufactures could have easily made the uniforms – and for less. Here’s how much the uniforms cost:

Men: Women:
Beret - $55 Beret - $55
Tie - $125 Scarf - $58
Belt - $85 Belt - $85
Shirt - $425 Shirt - $179
Blazer - $795 Skirt - $498
Trousers - $295 Blazer - $598
Shoes - $165

After the news broke about the China-made uniforms, some lawmakers suggested making a bonfire with the outfits. “I think they should take all the uniforms, put them in a big pile and burn them and start all over again,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said, “If they have to wear nothing but a symbol that says USA on it, painted by hand, that is what they should wear.” There is already a movement on Capitol Hill to make changes so this does not happen again at future Olympic Games. Lawmakers wrote a letter to the chairman of the U.S. Olympic Committee, Lawrence Probst, calling it “shocking and deeply disappointing” and asking all U.S. team’s uniforms be made in America in the future.

Friday Toy Memory I never had this game but I remembered the commercial. Battleship! Remember the people sitting at the opera and the 2 dudes playing Battleship? Here's the link for the commercial.

MARC has changed the schedule on the Brunswick Line. The changes take effect on Monday. Here is the link for the new schedule. http://mta.maryland.gov/sites/default/files/BrunswickJuly12_0.pdf

I didn't mention this on the air but I came across VINTAGE MUGSHOTS from the 1870's. Check them out here. The first few have a lot to do with stealing food or items that could become food (oats, pigeons, poultry, rabbits).

A 21-year-old farmer’s joke about farming has turned into a YouTube sensation with more than 3.2 million hits in less than two weeks. Greg Peterson of Assaria, Kansas, was goofing with friends and rewrote LMFAO’s song “Sexy and I Know It” to “I’m Farming and I Grow it.” The video shows Peterson and his brothers doing farm chores like driving combines and feeding cattle. Peterson says they made the video for their city friends who don’t know much about farming. The Kansas Farm Bureau says Peterson accomplished what agriculture groups have been trying to do: use social media to show consumers how agriculture works. See the video below.

Swimmin Bears, You packed how much?
Good Mornin! You know this morning, I played Beat It by Michael Jackson and totally stood up and started doing the dance in the studio. Glad there isn't a webcam in here.

Awww...

I mentioned that yesterday, an older gentleman did a chivalrous act and I thought it was pretty cool. We were walking toward each other on a narrow sidewalk. He stepped aside, motioned for me to go by...but the kicker is, he made sure I walked on the side furthest from the traffic. How cool! It wasn't till after he was past that I realized what a nice thing that was. It was a sweet moment.

Remember about a month ago, I told the story of the cows that got loose and started drinking beer at the field party? Here's the story if you don't recall.

Well, I've got another story of animals trying to hang out with the humans
...

Three bears found the hot tub just right. A mother bear and two cubs took a dip in a backyard hot tub in the Los Angeles area over the weekend. The momma bear and the little ones tumbled over fences and also took naps in trees. But by the time deputies arrived the bears were nowhere to be seen. Authorities say the black bears have likely ambled back toward the Angeles National Forest.

Average Woman Brings 28 Outfits During Weeklong Vacation (I'm waaay guilty of this!)

We’ve all that frantic moment where we should be rushing out the door to get to the airport and instead we’re trying to squeeze our suitcases closed tight enough to zip. A new study shows that most women do, in fact, pack a hell of a lot of clothes when they travel. A poll of 2,000 showed that the average woman brings 28 outfits for a weeklong vacation and changes her clothes four times a day while on vacation, and one in ten women wears seven outfits a day! Women wear 28 outfits during week-long holiday... that's FOUR changes every day (and they still don't wear everything they've packed!)

Things left behind at the airport...

More Than 8,000 Mobile Devices Lost At Airports

Hold on to your iPhone the next time you fly. According to a new survey, travelers in the last year left behind 8,016 mobile devices at seven of the largest airports in the country. The airports examined by Credant Technologies included Chicago O’Hare, Denver International, San Francisco International, Charlotte Douglas, Miami International, Orlando International, and Minneapolis/St. Paul. Only one of those airports reported handing the lost devices over to the authorities. More than half of the lost devices were reclaimed by their owners. But hundreds more ended up in the hands of new owners. The devices left behind the most include:

    Laptops: 3,576 (44.6%)
    Smartphones and tablets: 3,444 (43.0%)
    USB drives: 996 (12.4%)

Other notable findings:

Five of seven airports said most mobile devices are left behind at TSA checkpoints.
Two of seven said they found most missing devices in restrooms.
Six of seven airports reported donating the mobile devices to charity or transferring them to another location.

Passengers didn’t just leave behind their mobile devices. Other interesting items forgotten by their owners were tires and microwave ovens.

Bunch of stuff
The storms woke me up an hour early today and I, for one, was a little bitter about it. However, we do need the rain so I will now zip my lip!

Here a few things discussed on the morning show.

Speaking of weather...several thousand people lost power during this most recent storm. Here are some great applications for your cell phone that you can use to help during emergency situations.

Dropbox – Install the program on your PC or Mac, upload files to your folder, and they are instantly available on all your other computers.

MotionX GPS Drive – MotionX GPS Drive is the cheapest and most popular way to guide you out of town on an unfamiliar route.

Flashlight by Rik for iPhone and Brightest Flashlight – These apps turn your phones into flashlights.

Hurricane Tracker – This hurricane-tracking app is for serious weather junkies and people who want to be better-informed.

Life360 – The family GPS tracking system can help you find your loved ones anywhere.

5-0 Radio Police Scanner Lite – Pick up police band radio.

USAA – Report or view the status of an auto or property claim, submit photos, schedule an appraisal through one of USAA’s approved repair shops, or reserve a rental vehicle.

GasBuddy – Uses your GPS to display up-to-the-minute gas prices near you, so you can avoid price gouging.

Hands-Only CPR – App walks you through the two-step checklist: call 911, start chest compressions.

Have you heard about the "Twitter Dog"?

The  Twitter dog of Dublin has been returned. A Jack Russell terrier named
Patch jumped aboard an Irish Rail train in rural Kilcock and arrived in Dublin with morning commuters Wednesday. Irish Rail sent a "lost dog!" tweet and got more than 500 retweets in 32 minutes. Owner Deirdre Anglin  says the rapid retweets put the alert on her radar. An Irish Rail spokesman says Twitter was ideal for sending out a nationwide appeal about the dog. Ireland is a tech-savvy country where cell phones were the norm long before they were in the United States. Anglin took Patch home on the train and she says fellow travelers kept asking, "Is that the dog from Twitter?" Here's a picture of the cute dog.

Is your computer infected? I scream, You scream, you know the rest...and much mo
Hey y'all it's hotter than______________________ (feel free to fill in the blank in the comments).

I read this scary little thing about computers that are being infected with Malware. What I learned is that the FBI will start shutting off people's internet access if their computers are affected with this malware.  Read all the details here...

Is Your Computer Safe?

The warnings have been splashed across Facebook and Google. Internet service providers have sent notices, and the FBI set up a special website. But tens of thousands of Americans may still lose their Internet service Monday unless they do a quick check of their computers for malware that could have taken over their machines more than a year ago. Users whose computers are still infected Monday will lose their ability to go online, and they will have to call their service providers for help deleting the malware and reconnecting to the internet. To check whether a computer is infected, users can visit a website run by the group brought in by the FBI: www.dcwg.org. The site includes links to respected commercial sites that will run a quick check on the computer. It also lays out detailed instructions if users want to actually check the computer themselves.

Oh for the love of Ice Cream!

Summer is in full gear and temperatures are on the rise, so what better way to cool off than with some ice cream? California is the nation’s No. 1 ice cream producer, churning out over 142 million gallons of ice-cold creamy goodness each year. In honor of Ice Cream Month during the month of July, the California Milk Advisory Board surveyed consumers to find out just where the best place is to enjoy some ice cream goodness:

  • Over two-thirds of consumers nationwide eat ice cream, frozen yogurt or gelato most frequently in front of the TV or on the couch (64%).

  • Women are more likely than men to eat ice cream, frozen yogurt or gelato in bed.

  • Young adults, ages 18-34, say they find themselves eating ice cream, frozen yogurt or gelato on the couch more frequently than others (20%).

  • Maybe it’s the drip factor but parents are more likely than non-parents to eat ice cream, frozen yogurt or gelato outside than inside (19% vs. 11%).

A few tricks and tips of the ice cream trade:
  • To prevent an ice cream cone from becoming soggy while you eat, drop a mini marshmallow in the bottom of the cone before scooping.

  • To soften ice cream, transfer it to the refrigerator for 10-20 minutes before serving. A faster option is to use a microwave but be careful of ice cream soup! Place the ice cream in its cardboard container into a microwave set to High: microwave one pint for 10-15 seconds; one quart for 15-25 seconds; and a half-gallon for 30-40 seconds. (Don’t use a microwave if ice cream is in a plastic container.)

  • After serving ice cream, return carton to the freezer immediately to help prevent the formation of ice crystals that can occur when ice cream is partially thawed and then re-frozen. This will keep the texture smooth for your next bowl.

Today is International Kissing Day. Who knew? Read more about this holiday and other interesting facts courtesy of Zoosk.com

Pucker Up

In celebration of International Kissing Day, recognized around the world on July 6th, Zoosk.com surveyed more than 13,000 of its members from around the globe to gather their thoughts about one of life’s sweetest pleasures – smooching! The results show that while kissing may be the universal language of love, cultural differences abound. Findings include:

  • 46% of Americans say a “French Kiss” is their favorite type of kiss, while only 21% of the French prefer it. The French prefer a single sensual lip kiss.

  • The least preferred type of kiss in the U.S. is an “air kiss,” with less than 1% of Americans selecting it as their favorite.

  • Americans are more likely to kiss on a first date than anyone else in the world.

  • The majority of Americans (52%), Australians (58%) and Canadians (54%) say they kiss on a first date. The majority of Europeans, on the hand other, do not. Only 29% of Germans, 37% of Danes, 47% of Swedes, 32% of the French and 42% of Italians say they kiss on the first date.

  • 59% of kissers around the world (60% in U.S.) say bad breath is the worst offense when it comes to kissing. Other top turn-offs around the globe include: a wet kiss, too much tongue, and a kiss that is too short.

  • The most romantic Hollywood kiss, according to Americans, was between Rachael McAdams and Ryan Gosling in “The Notebook.”

Friday Toy Memory: Glow Necklaces and Jewelry. Remember when you'd get those glow sticks at the carnival then come home and put them in the freezer in hopes of keeping the glow going? "Reliving the magic" I call it. Remember when you put it in the freezer and the next morning you go back to the freezer with the anticipation that it will have kept the glow going, so then you open the freezer door very slowly to see if you see a  glow inside but alas...it isn't lit anymore?  Remember that? Good. :) I totally stole this memory from Nicole Delaquil McLeaf...she rocks!

What are the states most in danger of Red Light Running? ...I know it's random that I ask you that but here goes.

Riskiest Red-Light Running States

For residents of California, Florida, Maryland and Texas, the July 4th travel period ranks as the riskiest holiday travel period of the year for red-light running, according to research from the National Coalition for Safer Roads (NCSR). The Safer Roads Report 2012: Trends in Red-Light Running ranks the most dangerous holiday travel periods for intersection safety. The Fourth of July came in a close second overall behind Memorial Day as the worst holiday for road safety, with more than 25,000 red-light running violations during the Fourth of July travel period in 2011. Although July 4th ranked second highest overall, it’s the top-ranked holiday travel period for red-light running in California, Florida, Maryland and Texas.

  • California – 42.6% more red-light violations occur during the Fourth of July travel period than the lowest ranked holiday travel period in the state (Super Bowl).
  •
  • Florida – 39% more red-light violations occur during the Fourth of July travel period than the lowest ranked holiday travel period in the state (Christmas).

  • Maryland – 38% more red-light violations occur during the Fourth of July travel period than the lowest ranked holiday travel period in the state (Super Bowl).
  •
  • Texas – 37.8% more red-light violations occur during the Fourth of July travel period than the lowest ranked holiday travel period in the state (Super Bowl).
  •
  • A departure from the overall trend was found in Arizona. The 4th of July travel period ranked lowest in red-light violations when compared to all other holiday travel periods in Arizona.

Joey Chestnut Takes 6th Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Title
Competitive eating champion Joey Chestnut won his sixth consecutive Nathan’s Famous hot dog eating contest yesterday in New York. Chestnut was the champion of the men’s event after downing 68 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes – tying his record from 2009 – while Sonya “Black Widow” Thomas set a new record for the women’s contest by eating 45 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. “I feel pretty damn good,” Chestnut said after winning the annual contest. “I’d do this for free.” Thomas, whose victory was her second in as many years, said she had a special inspiration to set the record. “I’m 45 this year,” she said. “I wanted to eat my age.”

You ready for the 4th of July Holiday?
Well it certainly is great to have power back in the building and Internet. Speaking of Internet. Check this out...

Do You Know What Your Teen Is Doing Online?

More than 70% of teens hide some of their online behavior from their parents, according to a new study by McAfee. Plenty of young people are using the internet in ways that might surprise mom and dad. These hidden behaviors include some things you might expect – such as accessing violent (43%) or pornographic (32%) content online – but there’s also a few surprises:

9% have hacked into email accounts
12% have met face to face with a person he or she met on the Internet
15% have hacked into a social network
16% have used their phones to cheat on tests in school

McAfee said parents are often unaware of these behaviors. Nearly half of parents install some sort of online controls, the survey said; 44% know their teens’ passwords, and one in 10 uses a location-monitoring device. The report, titled “The digital divide: How the online behavior of teens is getting past parents,” also includes a list of the “top 10 ways teens are fooling their parents.” Here’s the list, with the percentage of teens who said they engaged in these behaviors:

1. Clear browser history (53%)
2. Close/minimize browser when parent walked in (46%)
3. Hide or delete IMs or videos (34%)
4. Lie or omit details about online activities (23%)
5. Use a computer your parents don’t check (23%)
6. Use an Internet-enabled mobile device (21%)
7. Use privacy settings to make certain content viewable only by friends (20%)
8. Use private browsing modes (20%)
9. Create private email address unknown to parents (15%)
10. Create duplicate/fake social network profiles (9%)

We all know the basics about the Independence Day holiday but did you know some of these facts? I find the most unusual stuff online when I'm surfing around. I love that about my job!

The Fourth Of July 2012

On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation. As always, this most American of holidays will be marked by parades, fireworks and backyard barbecues across the country. Here are some stats and facts from the U.S. Census Bureau about the Fourth of July.

2.5 million: In July 1776, the estimated number of people living in the newly independent nation.

313.9 million: The nation’s estimated population on this July Fourth.

$3.6 million: In 2011, the dollar value of U.S. imports of American flags. The vast majority of this amount ($3.3 million) was for U.S. flags made in China.

$663,071: Dollar value of U.S. flags exported in 2011. Mexico was the leading customer, purchasing $80,349 worth.

$232.3 million: The value of fireworks imported from China in 2011, representing the bulk of all U.S. fireworks imported ($223.4 million). U.S. exports of fireworks, by comparison, came to just $15.8 million in 2011, with Australia purchasing more than any other country ($4.5 million).

$231.8 million: The value of U.S. manufacturers’ shipments of fireworks and pyrotechnics (including flares, igniters, etc.) in 2007.

One day without internet is like....ARGH!!!!!
We didn't have internet access on Monday. It was like my left arm was cut off. It was tough to deal with but we got through it. I'm not complaining because there are still people without power in their homes and this by no means compares to that! This is the stuff I talked about on Monday.
  • TomKat  (Tom Cruise + Katie Holmes)
  • Brangelina (Brad Pitt + Angelina Jolie)
  • Smog (Smoke + Fog)
  • Spork (Spoon + Fork)
  • Brunch (Lunch + Breakfast)
Do you know what all these things are called? They're called Portmanteaus. That's when you combine two words to create a new name for them. Also a portmanteau (prounounced port-man-toe) word typically combines both sounds and meanings like the words above. That's a little tidbit I learned while cooped up inside during the crazy heatwave this weekend.

Did you know that July is National Hot Dog Month! Yippeee!!

During National Hot Dog Month in July,  Americans will chow down on an estimated 150 million wieners on Independence Day alone, a new survey sponsored by Applegate, producer of organic and natural meats, finds that while many Americans differ in preferences for what’s on their hot dogs, 77%- are concerned about what’s in their hot dogs. In an effort to help Americans better understand what’s really in their hot dogs, Applegate launched
www.whatsinyourhotdog.com. On the site, visitors can interact with videos and graphics rife with wiener puns and fun frank facts. To celebrate National Hot Dog Month, Applegate will give away a one-year supply of Applegate Super Natural Hot Dogs. To enter, consumers can go to the site and leave a comment about their favorite hot dog topping, using #whatsinyourhotdog in their post. The giveaway begins July 1st and runs through the end of National Hot Dog Month, when one lucky commenter will be chosen at random. The survey showed that when it comes to condiments, the yellow stuff cuts the mustard. Mustard was the top topping, followed by ketchup, onions and relish. The topping used least often is tomatoes. Nearly all those surveyed – 95% - find grilled hot dogs to be delicious. Only 9% claimed to “never buy hot dogs.”

Undoubtedly, you've heard the song Domino by Jessie J. We play it all the time here on Lite 97.5. Jessie J has been sued for copyright infringement over her song “Domino.” Billboard reports that the song, is her biggest hit to date in the U.S., is the source of a lawsuit filed by singer Will Loomis in Newport, California. The names Jessie J (aka Jessica Cornish), Universal Music Group, Lava Records and Universal Republic Records as defendants, alleging that large portions of his 2008 song “Bright Red Chords” were used in “Domino,” which was put out last August. Loomis’ lawyer issued a statement saying, “Mr. Loomis never consented to the use of his song, and we look forward to obtaining an appropriate remedy from the court for this clear infringement.” Loomis put up a video on YouTube a couple of months ago comparing the two tracks. Here it is...what do you think? I think the guitar riff is what makes it so similar.
