Welcome to another work week!
Did y'all have a good weekend? I hope so. This weekend was restful for me...which is a good thing because I typically run around a ton!  Speaking of being sleep deprived. I read this  and thought Um...duh!

Third Of American Workers Aren’t Getting Enough Sleep

A new study says 30% of American workers are sleep deprived, and are getting six or fewer hours of sleep a day. The report from the Centers for Disease Control  shows that 40.6 million workers are getting less than the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep per day. Those most at risk are anyone working late at night, which includes parents with young children. And if you’re not sleeping enough, you could end up harming yourself or others. In fact drowsy drivers have been involved in up to 20% of car crashes. The age group most likely to be sleep deprived is the 30 to 44 range, with 44% of people on the night shift needing more ZZZs compared to 28.8% of daytime workers.

Travel tell all, Imagination and more!
Happy Friday y'all!

Ever wonder what a hotel really looks like when you look at their really pretty website? Or have you ever gone on vacation and gotten to the hotel room you booked and it looks NOTHING like the brochure? Yeah, it happens. Here's a site that calls itself the "Hotel Tell All". I love it. It's called Oyster.com. They've got all kinds of travel deals to all kinds of places across the country and all over the world for that matter.

Friday Toy Memory:  I saw this picture somewhere recently and I remembered having the album of the Disneyland Boys Choir singing "It's a Small World".  This is the album cover. Anyone remember thisAnd because I like you...I'd like to share the song with you so you can't get it out of your head. You're Welcome. :)

Finally, If you have kids under the age of about 7 years old, you've probably heard of the Imagination Movers. I've been giving away tickets to see the Imagination Movers at the Weinberg Center for the Arts on Sunday, May 13th! There are two shows 2:00pm and 6:00pm. See one of their videos and see why they are so catchy for kids and parents too!

Administrative Professionals Day
Today is Administrative Professionals Day. That means that if you support a boss in any administrative capacity, you are being recognized with a day of your own. Hopefully, your boss will thank you for all you do! Whether its answering the phone, remembering their appointments, keeping everyone on task in the office or whatever you do, you deserve a day that says "Thanks!". So if no one is willing to do it for you, I will. Here are some virtual flowers for ya! I was a receptionist for several years, and that's why I'm all over it!

BTW, if you have a boss from H*LL, read this!

Hope to see you at the Administrative Professionals Day Luncheon at the Purple Iris later today. Here's the info about it:

sleep deprived + 21 of the worst things EVER! Hilarious
This should tell you how sleep deprived I am. I posted (on a Tuesday) "Happy Wednesday y'all!" on Facebook. Ugh.

Here are 21 of the Worst Things Ever! As classified by
Buzzfeed. I cracked up when I saw some of the pics listed on the right! These are some of my faves! By the way, I don't agree with the last one on their list!

Do you hate getting your cell phone bill and realize that you've gone over your minutes or data plan allowance? It happens to me all the time. The Federal Communications Commission has launched a new website designed to help wireless customers keep track of how close they are to their monthly usage limits. The website tracks how the major U.S. wireless carriers alert you when you’re at risk of going over your usage limits for voice, data and text. An FCC survey says that 30 million Americans – or one out of every six wireless users – has experienced “bill shock,” when they unknowingly went over their limit. Under an agreement reached between the FCC and the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association, four major carriers and six others (Cellcom, Cellular One of Northeast Arizona, Clearwire, Illinois Valley Cellular, SouthernLINC Wireless and U.S. Cellular) will provide customer alerts in at least two of the four categories by October 2012, and all four by April 2013. Here's the site!

I walked in this morning and there was a big old chocolate cake from Sam's Club here. Of course I needed to have some before 6:00am. The first thing that crossed my mind was the Bill Cosby "Chocolate Cake" sketch. I remember my cousin and I used to recite the whole "Bill Cosby; Himself" album. Below is the video.  Funny stuff. I was singing "Dad is Great, Give us the Chocolate Cake". You can just hear the song at 7:14 in the video.

How much of our brain do we use?

I'd always heard that we only use like 10% of it. Well, my sleep deprived little brain came across this article that said that we use more than that. Who knew? Read more here!

Keeping with the Green Theme!

Hi y'all!

I looked at my shower head this weekend, I was in a real cleaning mood. Have you ever looked at yours? It's got this white cakey gunk on it. I think it's a lime buildup or something so then I decided to look up how toclean it off. I wanted something that would be "green" since it was Earth Day weekend. I found this little easy fix to my problem. Voila! Who knew it was that easy?

Since I'm on the topic of being green, here's a whole list of things you can use baking soda for in your home. Hope it's helpful to you. I guess, I'm just keeping the "green theme" going.

Ladies Love our compliments!

In fact, a study shows that women like compliments more than sex and shopping! In a survey of 1,000-plus women, those polled revealed that compliments boost their mood more than chocolate, shopping, and even sex. The only thing that beats out words of flattery is surprisingly, nice weather -- which two-thirds of women chalked up to being the biggest mood booster of all. So compliment us on a beautiful day and we'll be all smiles? Read more here.

There was a song I just came across. It's called "3 Second Rule". It's truly awful. At first, I thought the song was a big joke but it isn't is real. My issue with the song is how "fakey" it sounds with the bad keyboard beats in the background. The woman's voice is also um...really bad! See the video here. Feel free to comment.

Weekend Stuff

Here are of few things I mentioned earlier today:

Everybody is looking for ways to save a few bucks at the pump. Here are some ideas to save money on driving and gas mileage from the Alliance to Save Energy. There are a few on the list that you'd expect like:

-keeping your tires properly inflated
-driving the speed limit
-removing junk from the trunk

Click here for the full list of helpful tips!!

The Social Security Administration has ways for you to "go green" this Earth day....

www.socialsecurity.gov/onlineservices

April 22nd is Earth Day. More than one billion people will celebrate Earth Day in one way or another. You could plant a tree, recycle your plastic, glass and paper, or use the back side of printer paper before tossing it. But what's even better than recycling your paper is not having any paper to begin with. By doing business with Social Security over the Internet, you'll be doing your part to help environment-friendly practices. Whether you want to get an estimate of your future retirement benefits, apply for Social Security benefits or Medicare, request a replacement Medicare card, report a change of address or direct deposit (if you are currently receiving benefits), or take charge of your retirement planning, you can use the secure website. Going online saves you a trip, as well as the gas and carbon emissions that go along with it. Go to this site to get started.

Singer Pink had some pretty nice things to say about Adele in a magazine article that she wrote. Some of the highlights are "When I first heard Adele, I was on tour, alone in a hotel room in London, watching her sing from a rooftop on YouTube - a song called Hometown Glory. I thought, 'Who is this creature? This voice! Her tone! Why is the entire world not watching this video?" Wow! That's some admiration there. Read the rest here

What day is it again?
So funny thing happened this morning. When I woke up, there was some story on the radio or on tv about superstitions. So somewhere in my sleep deprived mind, I decided that it meant it was Friday the 13th! So, I come in and start talking about superstitions with our Curt from the Transit team...unbeknownst to me, it's actually Friday, April 20th. Priceless. Nancy finally called at 5:25 am to ask if I'd had my coffee yet. Ha! I hadn't. We had a great laugh about it.

I got this e-mail that has all these interesting things you didn't know you could do with household items. For instance, you can turn a toaster on it's side and make a grilled cheese sandwich? I seem to recall that I tried something similar without turning the toaster sideways, when I was kid...not good results. :)

I also saw this picture of buttons that have been dyed by using RIT dye. This picture is so cool .Check out the full list here.

Did you know tomorrow is  Record Store Day?

Earth day is Sunday!

I dare say I'm the greenest person in the office. I'm the one who likes to pull paper out of the trash and put it in the recycle bin. So for Earth Day, I plan to step it up in small ways. Here's a great site about little changes that you can make for Earth day. The Earth Day Network is hosting “A Billion Acts of Green” this year. The goal is to register one billion environmentally friendly actions in advance of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development happening in Rio de Janeiro in June. At the Rio de Janeiro event, The Earth Day Network will face world leaders to demonstrate that people are willing to stand up and be counted. You can register an act of green at earthday.org. For instance, using reusable grocery bags is an eco-friendly pledge and an act that costs very little and saves so much. So far, almost 980 million acts have been registered at the website, so A Billion Acts of Green is well on the way. The first Earth Day was on April 22, 1970.

Need. Caffeine. Now!!!!
G'mornin. I have to admit my busy schedule starts to take its toll on me by mid week. I got here this morning and thought to myself, I need caffeine STAT!!!! I made a big old mug and now, all is right with the world. Yesterday, when I woke up, I heard this story on ABC News about how caffeine affects the brain.  Here's the story I saw.

So what do you do when your boyfriend breaks your heart? I tell ya what you don't do...drive his car into a bowling alley! I read this story and was like, "Dude, really?" What is up with people?

After being dumped over Facebook, a drunk and heartbroken British woman got her revenge by driving her ex-boyfriend's car into the bowling alley he worked at. Security camera footage shows Claire Holley, a 31-year-old mother of three, ramming a Ford Focus through glass doors as terrified customers and staff run for cover, causing about $22,000 in damage. Amazingly, no one was hurt. Holley plead guilty to dangerous driving and was given a suspended 9 month prison sentence and banned from driving for 18 months.

What they earn--from Parade Magazine
I always read Parade Magazine each week. For the past 30 years, they have done an issue they call "What they earn". This is a profile of what people typically earn in certain jobs. This year for the 30th annual report, they decided to do a comparison of the same people of what they earned  then and what they earn now. Interesting stuff.  Below is a list of what some of the celebs earned then and now.

I think one of my faves is the "Laugh Ambassador" who knew there was such a job title and it pays so well at $53,066? Here are some others and the link to Parade Magazine.

  • In 1991, Suzanne Collins, the writer of “The Hunger Games,” earned $31,300 as a TV Writer. Now, she earns $10 million as a hit author.

  • As a 20-year-old in 1983, Johnny Depp earned $13,500 as a salesman. Now, the A-list actor earns $50 million a year.

  • In 1997, Barack Obama, then 36, earned $48,403 as Illinois State Senator. Now, at age 50, as the President of the United States, Obama earns $400,000.

  • In 2009, at age 21, Snooki earned $45,000 as a reality TV star. Now, at age 24, Snooki earns $1.6 million with the same occupation.

  • In 1996, as the Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, Sarah Palin, then 32, earned $64,000 a year. Now, at 48, she earns $1 million as a Fox News Analyst.

  • Actor Jon Hamm, 41, spent much of the 1990s going on auditions and waiting tables, earning $14,350 a year. He now earns $2.3 million for his role on AMC’s “Mad Men.”

  • Before she became an “American Idol,” Carrie Underwood earned $15,980 as a part-time waitress at Ella’s Pizza Joint while she attended Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. The country star now earns a whopping $20 million.

  • As a struggling actor in the 1980s, Steve Buscemi, now 54, worked as a New York City firefighter (and, at various points, as a dishwasher and an ice cream truck driver), earning $22,700 before he went on to star on “Boardwalk Empire,” bringing home $75,000 per episode.

  • In 1995, Ryan Seacrest, then age 20, earned $10,800 as a radio host. Now, Seacrest earns $15 million as the host of “American Idol.”

  • In 1984, Oprah Winfrey made $200,000 as host of “AM Chicago.” Now she earns a paltry $290 million as CEO of Harpo.

Songs to get your workout to...

There are some songs that get you going when you want to motivate to workout. LMFAO is the song that won out in a survey from Gold's Gym. Read on... and here's the LMFAO's epic video of "Party Rock Anthem"

Gold’s Gym has announced that LMFAO can officially lay claim to having the most “rockin’” song in the gym. After a competitive nationwide vote, LMFAO’s blood-pumping popular track “Party Rock Anthem” survived a bracket stacked with 15 chart-topping tunes to claim the title of greatest workout song of the past year in the second annual March Music Madness competition. Hundreds of song nominations from celebrities and fans of Gold’s Gym as well as Men’s Health were submitted from around the country, with 16 of the most popular submissions chosen by Gold’s Gym celebrity trainers and fitness experts to go head-to-head. With thousands of votes logged during the competition, LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” emerged from a “Final Four” that included mega hits “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5, “Levels” by Avicii and Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything Tonight.”

I guess it's important to see what ickiness is in the beach sand. I initially read this and thought, "What a waste of time" but I guess it's a good idea to know what's in our beach sand.

U.S. environmental scientists say they’ve created a reference guide for potentially harmful germs lurking in the sand used by children to build sand castles. Principal investigator Helena Solo-Gabriele, a professor at the University of Miami College of Engineering, and Tomoyuki Shibata of the Northern Illinois University, said they wanted to determine what levels of bacteria, or pathogens, found in beach sand could pose a health risk for beachgoers. The scientists ran 1 million simulations of the number of microbes in each gram of sand, the transfer of sand from hand to mouth and the ingestion rate. They created a reference guide for potentially harmful germs in sand, similar to the guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for marine water – the risk of having 19 cases of bacterial infection per 1,000 beachgoers. However, studies showed children have a higher illness risk than adults from beach and sand exposures and the researchers will focus on studies of kids’ play behavior in sand."

Lookin for a job? Look at this!...and are you a tax cheat?
A lot of people out there are still looking for a job. Here's some free advice from career coaches. Like did you know you shouldn't list the objective on your resume?  There is some really good stuff here. Read the article here.

Tax Cheats

Even though many U.S. taxpayers complain about taxes, a new survey indicates only 7% admit to cheating on their taxes. A DDB Life Style Study survey found that the biggest difference between tax cheaters and non-cheaters this year was gender. Of those who admitted to cheating, 72% were men and 55% were age 45 and under.  However, the dishonesty that characterizes those who cheat on their taxes was also evident in other areas of life. For example:

Tax Cheats

Non Tax Cheats

Keep the wrong change given to them by a cashier if it is more 53% 23%
Fake liking somebody to get a free dinner out of it 31% 6%
Fabricating part of a résumé 41% 6%
Work a job under the table while collecting unemployment benefits 60% 13%
Regifting something rarely used and pass it off as new 47% 19%
Take credit for someone else’s work to help get ahead 24% 6%
Find a decadent life of “sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll” appealing 39% 16%
Assert a superiority complex, claiming to be better than most people 52% 29%
Park in a handicapped space if no other places are closer 26% 6%
Keep $100, even if they knew who the rightful owner is 21% 38%
Putting themselves ahead of their kids if they would benefit from it 40% 18%
Assert vanity claiming to be more attractive than most people 47% 27%
Value own happiness over that of others 51% 29%

Beauty-ful weekend ahead Woo-Hoo!
G'mornin! Gotta love Fridays when you know the weather is going to be gorgeous!

25 Cool things your iPhone can do!

Yesterday my friend posted this interesting post about neat things you can do with your iphone (some of them work on smart phones too). There are 25 of them, some of them aren't that interesting but some of them definitely are worth a try
. Check it out!

Funny video...would you push the button? I would, I'm way to nosy to let it go!

Friday Toy Memory: I loved Shrinky Dinks. Remember them? Upon reflection, I only have one problem with them...What's the deal with toy companies coming up with getting kids to play with hot ovens? They used to puff up and whatnot. Loved them! I didn't know they were still around. Maybe I should buy some and bake em up one weekend? Um...no.

Wrinkled Ladies...LOL

I got a call from Melody who introduced me to this cute video! It's Anita Renfro singing "Wrinkled Ladies". Its a parody of Beyonce's "Single Ladies"...enjoy.

It was just a matter of time. Christina Aguilera has revealed that she is recording a new song with her “The Voice” co-coach Cee-Lo Green. Yeah, that's no shocker. Aguilera revealed the news during a Q&A before the results show of “The Voice.” In response to a fan asking when her next album was coming out, Christina said that quality was more important than quantity to her and she wanted “personal” songs to record before mentioning that she would be collaborating with Green. The title was not revealed. Cee-Lo later said, “It’s a song for her album. I won’t disclose the title, because it could possibly be a working title.”

Hug your dog day? Everyday?

There was a study from Beneful dog food company that says that people hug their dogs more than their family. Here's a story about the study.  Also, here's the facebook page about Hug Your Dog Day (it was a few days ago, I found out about it too late! :( But, who is to say you can't make it Hug your dog day every day?

Bases, chocolates and so much more!
We'll be playing Bats, Bases and the Sun (s). Get it? You can play trivia to win tickets to see the Hagerstown Suns play next week against the Lakewood Blue Claws.

I mentioned that this song got stuck in my head and I woke up with the drum beat of the beginning playing in my head over and over. Ugh. Enjoy and perhaps I can make the same happen for you. :)

So they came out with a ranking of the our favorite candy bars-- When it comes to chocolate, we like what we like and we don't change. A list of America's Top 10 favorite chocolates discovered that 80% of the brands are more than 50 years old, and the newest brand is almost 20 years old. Our favorite is still Snickers. Here's the rundown of the tops!

Texas Tenors and Tax Tips!
Yesterday, you heard my interview with Marcus Collins (the hot-tay) from the Texas Tenors. I'll have more tickets for you to see them at the Maryland Theatre this weekend. Keep listening! Check out this video of the guys on America's Got Talent.

Last Minute Tax Tips From The IRS

Even with some extra time, the tax deadline is fast approaching. Thanks to a holiday in the District of Columbia, all taxpayers have until April 17th to get Form 1040 into the IRS. For people who find taxes a little too taxing, IRS has a program that can help. It’s called Free File. You can use free software to do your taxes and e-file for free. Get started at IRS.gov/freefile. The software does the hard work – doing the math and helping you find the tax breaks you’re due. There is a free option for everyone. People who make $57,000 or less, which includes most Americans, can use the Free File software. People who make more can use Free File Fillable Forms, an electronic version of IRS paper forms. If you don’t think you can meet the April 17th deadline, you can request an extension. But remember, this is an extension to file your return, not to pay. If you think you owe, send a payment with your extension request. The IRS also offers some tips that may help:

  • Don’t wait until the last minute; you’re prone to make mistakes.
  • Use IRS.gov for answers to your questions or to track your refund.
  • Use Free File, there’s a free option for everyone.
  • Don’t panic if you can’t pay; you can arrange for a payment agreement at IRS.gov.
  • If you can’t make the April 17th deadline, use Free File to request an extension and make a payment if needed.

Meanwhile, Jackson Hewitt is reminding last minute filers of the most common mistakes to avoid when filing their tax returns:

Incorrect Filing Status Claiming Ineligible Exemptions
Providing Incorrect Information Forgetting to Claim Items

Tuesday Randomness
So you want a job huh? Well here are some jobs to stay away from according to a USA Today poll. These are seeing the biggest declines.

Jobs You Don’t Want

While many unemployed Americans would take just about any job they could get, there are some occupations you may want to consider staying away from. A USA Today survey searched hundreds of occupations to find out which ones are having the biggest declines in employment. These are projected declines between 2006 and 2016. Here’s what they found:

  • Photographic processing machine operators: Down 50%
  • File clerks: Down 41%
  • Sewing machine operators: Down 27% (Tie)
  • Electrical and electronic equipment assemblies: Down 27% (Tie)

Cute kid dances the jive. The child is 2 years old. My favorite part... his final bow then the high five to his parents. So cute!

Yes, I dare follow up that cute kid with "The Scary Guy". I like that he's working to rid the world of bullying. This is what I read about him.

"A former tattoo artist who legally changed his name to “The Scary Guy” is using his persona – and very scary facial ink – to teach schoolkids to stop bullying. The Minnesota man formerly known as Earl Kauffman has become an in-demand “bully prevention guru.” His mission, according to his website, is “The Total Elimination of Hate, Violence and Prejudice Worldwide.” The 58-year-old changed his name in 1998, when 85% of his body was covered with tattoos. According to CNN, he charges as much as $6,500 for speaking engagements in schools. Scary says he’s performed in 19 states and frequently gets international requests." Here is his website.

Hi Monday peeps!
So I played Beyonce's Single Ladies. This is totally in the Awww category. There was a little tiny dachsund puppy that was born early last month. She was named Beyonce and she was so tiny they kept taking pictures of her near little things to show how small she is. Here she is next to an iphone! Awww. Read the rest of the story of little Beyonce.

I got an e-mail from this guy Ryan. He is in a band called The Mood. He sent me their song called "Cumberland". It's nice. I really like the singer's voice in this song. Check out the video.  Happy Monday y'all!
