Hi, I'm Rona...and I'm pretty random. I blurt out things that come to mind. Sometimes funny, sometimes serious. Tune in to find out what I mean. Drop me a line at rona@lite975.com!
So who knew that today was Sadie Hawkins Day? I had heard of it before but in theory that means that women only have ONE STINKIN Day in 4 years to ask a guy out. I think that sucks! Can I be so blunt? :)
Nikole called and let me know that one and she told me that there was a movie called Leap Year a few years ago. Who knew?. Then I heard from someone (who shall remain nameless) who said when you are born on this day Feb 29th, you're called a "Leapling" who knew?
My roomie from college has a great blog. This is what she has to add about Leap Year Day!
Today is National Pancake Day! Here's the linkthat gives you all the info you need!
ARE YOU A PEN STEALER OR A PEN MOVER?
I'm not gonna lie, I'm a pen stealer of the highest order. When I see a pen I like, I find a way to get it. Some people just move pens to another place with no intention of stealing it. I just read something that confirms my belief that most people fall into one of those 2 categories. Read this study..
"An Illinois office supply company (Paper Mate) says its national survey found 100 percent of respondents admitted to stealing pens from colleagues. The survey found 78 percent of respondents admitted to stealing pens by accident while 22 percent admitted to taking pens on purpose. "
Yeah, I said ice cream cone in your pocket! I love stupid laws. So I found a little blog that had a few of them for you. If you are a fan of these like I am, you'll love this list. Seriously, you could get fined for not having a smile on your face? Love! Here's the page.
Everyone is talking about the Oscars this morning. I really didn't get to see that much of the show, I fell asleep (waking up at 3:45am will do that to your nightlife). I did see a few key things, Billy Crystal's opening number where he was part of the different films of the year. I thought that was funny. I saw when Octavia Spencer won the Best Supporting Actress and she was overwhelmed, that was nice. I missed J-Lo's Nip slip. If you want even more coverage from the Oscars webpage, click here! Here is a boildown of the big winners...
Best Actor - Jean Dujardin -- The Artist
Best Actress - Meryl Streep
Best Picture - The Artist Best Supporting Actor - Christopher Plummer Best Actress in a Supporting Role - Octavia Spencer Best Original Song - Man or Muppet - The Muppets (just cause it's awesome that The Muppets won!!!)
Do you love the TV Show Mad Men? I'm a huuuuge fan! The show starts it's long awaited 5th season on Sunday, March 25th with a 2 hour long special. LOVE that!!!! I was looking at the www.AMCTV.com website and they have a fun game where you can interview for a job at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. Cool!
Do you love fishing?
Fishing will be on the house -- or rather the state. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources wants a place in every county where people can fish for free. State fisheries director Tom O'Connell says the idea is to get folks hooked on fishing. An annual freshwater fishing license costs Maryland residents a little over 20 bucks. A bill being considered by state legislators would create the free fishing spots. O'Connell tells the Cumberland Times-News that the freebie fishing holes would have sunfish and bass. But people who want to go after trout in high-quality streams would still be required to have a license.
THE SCENT THAT REALLY TURNS HER ON _ Hey guys, forget the champagne or wine, if you're looking for a romantic evening with your lady, fix her a glass of organic licorice tea, and leave out some Good and Plenty licorice candy to snack on. It turns out the scent of licorice drives women crazy. In fact, a study discovered that women who were around the smell of licorice were far more likely to be "in the mood" compared to women who were around the scent of men's cologne.Read this story that tells about the study and what smells, other than licorice...like pumpkin pie and cucumber, get to women.
This is why I love my job! Today, one of the guests on Panhandle Live (on our sister station WEPM) is Carrie Chase. She is the owner of Simone. Simone has just returned frm her win as Best in Breed at the Westminster Kennel Club in NYC last week! Awesome. She's this friendly little 2 year old Corgi. I'm in love!
Earlier in the day, I talked about the 8 Traits of Emotional Eaters! I'm definitely guilty of some of these. Especially eating when I'm mad or I've bottled up my feelings. Readthis listfrom Dr. Roger Gould and some of it's really on target. Do any of these fit you?
Also at 7:20 I spoke with Debbie Mancini. You may remember her as the "Groundhog Day Lady" but more seriously, she's a parenting expert. We spoke about having great communication with your kids. Here's a link to her site,Color My World, where she has interactive games for kids. Her site for parents is Get to Know My Kid.
Happy Tuesday everyone! I'm sure it's a little hard to wake up and get back to the old grind after the long (and nice weather weekend).
Since today is the day that some people eat lots of pancakes, I thought I'd give you a quick list of Pancake Breakfasts/Dinners that are going on:
Citizens Fire Company Annual Pancake Day 6am-7pm!
Trinity Episcopal Church Pancake Supper 5pm -7pm
Emmanuel United Methodist Church Pancake Supper 5pm-7pm
St. Luke's United Methodist 4:30pm-7pm
Now to the gross part ...I came across this story about laboratory created meat. The first ever hamburger to come from a lab instead of a dead animal is due to be served this fall after a $330,000 development effort. Eww. Read on (if you dare).
Do you watch "The Voice"? Would you say Adam Levine and Christina Aguliera are flirting? Or NOT?Read thisto see what Cee Lo Green thinks!
From Parade Magazine...5 ways to manage your online reputation. Good stuff. I definitely plan to do some of these things! Check it outhere!
Some people celebrate President's day by shopping for furniture, cars, or just sleeping in. The women in these pictures celebrated by goosing the President. See, President Obama was campaigning in San Francisco, and two seperate women took the photo op to grab his tush. Don't believe me? Take a look at the pics. I think those women are sly! :)
Did you know that there have only been 43 Presidents? The reason is that Cleveland was elected for two nonconsecutive terms and is counted twice, as our 22nd and 24th president. I found an entire page of Presidential Fun Facts. Feel free to use them to amaze and astound your friends!
Even if the kids don't have to go to school today, you can make a "presidential lunch" theme for them. I saw this one of the many crafty blogs I get in my inbox! Enjoy the George Washington sandwich!
I came across this blog post on Mental Floss.com. In honor of Presidents Day, it's a list of Presidential candidates that didn't have good grades. I mentioned on the air that I don't want you getting mad at me because I'm putting it out there. I'm not making a commentary on any of the people who are named, I just thought it was an interesting blog post. Here it is.
I have always said my 2 favorite breakfast foods are pancakes and bacon. I wish I could have been there to witness this fun. Over 900 students in England set a new Guiness World Record for flipping flapjacks yesterday. Read here for the whole story!
Have you put on a few lb's after getting in a relationship? I have noticed that happening with my friends. A new study explains why. The study says, "A meaningful relationship can add plenty to your life -- including weight. A whopping 90 percent of women gain weight when they settle down with a long-term partner, a new survey finds. The average woman puts on 16 pounds -- most of which begins to creep on just four to six months into a relationship. Why? One in five women admit they start to worry less about their appearance once they become comfortable with their partner. Not surprisingly, many also blame an increase in cozy nights in and indulgent dinners out."Read more about here.
So it's the day after Valentine's day and we made it through. I did get a couple of pieces of chocolate from the intern yesterday...and my trainer showed his love by making our workout group do tons of squats. Ugh. I'm sore today as a result.
Here are a few things I covered on the show today...
Do you call in sick when you are stressed at work? A new study shows that people call out sick when they are bored or don't have a lot to do. Interesting. It makes sense, but I don't think I've ever given it thought. Read here about this little study.
Yesterday there was a probably a lot of kissing going on. I read this and found it funny... "When sweethearts pucker up on Valentine's Day, they will be participating in one of the most bizarre and unlikely of human activities. Experts say kissing evolved from sniffing, which people did centuries ago as a way of learning about each other."Here's the story
So this one seems like a "duh" but whatever. There was recently a survey asking people about streee. The results? (here's the duh part) If you're a guy, you're most likely stressed out about your job. If you're a woman, you're most likely stressed out about money, and family, and friends, and world hunger, and... you get the idea. Men stress about work; women stress over life.
Here are some foods you should eat on Valentines day...(I DON'T agree with the garlic! suggestion) Some of my favorites on the menu are avocado, almonds, and chocolate. Yummm! Here's the full list.
True TV has a list of the 14 Dumbest Valentines Traditions. I can't agree with them on the chocolate though. I loooove chocolate and don't think it's ever dumb, bad, or wrong!!!! :) By the way, this post is risque'-so don't say I didn't warn you. Read onhere!
Some days you wake up and get going and realize that your brain is still in bed under the covers sleeping. Today is one of those for me definitely. I need a weekend to recover from my weekend. On Saturday night I saw Howie Mandel, and on Sunday night, I saw the Mighty Temptations...both put on awesome shows. I just stayed up waaay past my bedtime. So today, I'm a little sleep deprived.
Here are some of the things I covered on the show today...
Whitney Houston's passing has been upsetting to me like it has to many but I find myself going over some of her older music and realizing how much music she put out in her 30 + year career. This list has the Top 10 Whitney Houston songs as voted by ivillage.com. There are some that are missing from the list like "I'm Every Woman" and "You Give Good Love" (her first hit). Clickhereto see the list.
All this week I'm giving away gift cards to IHOP. On February 28th they are doing the Seventh Annual National Pancake Day to benefit charities across the country. The way it works is that you go in, make a donation and you get a free short stack of pancakes (sweet!). So mark your calendars to eat and give on Tuesday February 28th and listen all week to get $25 Gift Cards to IHOP!
Keeping with the theme of pancakes, I was wondering what some short order cooks call them. Some on the list are a little racy. You are forewarned. I thought they were funny though. Other wacky names for pancakes...Check it out...hehe One of my favorites on the list..."Uncle Sam from above"
Are you still waiting until the last minute to get your Valentine's Day gift? If you are the ultimate procrastinator, I've got a few places where you can go to get that last minute gift...that doesn't make you look last minute! I came across a blog of good last minute gifts that also give back in some way too.
Friday Fun! by Rona Rona,posted Feb 10 2012 6:37AM
I'm single and I'm just not that fond of Valentines day. Maybe it's because for one day you are meant to feel like a loser if you aren't paired up in a relationship. It's more a commercial holiday than anything else. At any rate, I was thinking of people who decide to do a first date on Valentine's day. Wow...no pressure there! I found a list of 15 cool things to do to make that first date a lot less awkward fromThe Frisky. I really like #6 "Stay Classy". No better advice than that! Read the whole articlehere.
Weather experts and allergists are saying that due to the short (or nonexistent) winter, allergy season is arriving early this year. They say that it's here because of the warmth and humidity in the air. Read moreabout why you might be coughing, sniffling, and having the watery eyes business a few months early this year.
It looks like from this map that we are in the clear here in the Eastern Panhandle. For our friends in Maryland and Virginia...they aren't so lucky. Those are high risk states for contracting Lyme Disease. FYI, I had a friend who had it and he was down for the count for more than 2 weeks. See the maphere and read the story. Interesting stuff.
I'm a self admitted Madonna fan. When I heard she'd be performing (even if it was lip syncing) at the Super Bowl on Sunday, I was excited to see her bring it. Lots of people have had thoughts about it. Some say, she looked tired, some people said tjhat she rocked it. It just depends on who is doing the critiquing. Personally, I think she looked great and did a good job. I can't imagine getting up there at 53 years old and doing assisted cartwheels in 5 inch heels. If you are 53 and think y ou could do that performance, I challenge you to learn the choreography, lip sync, and perform without looking like you are winded. Its' hard to do at any age. I think Madonna has still got it! When I read this, I realized, others agree...
"Madonna’s halftime performance was the most watched TV program in US history. The game itself drew a record 111.3 million viewers, but 114 million tuned in for the Madonna spectacular. The news gets better for Madge. Sales of her music catalogue have skyrocketed. Her new single Give Me All Your Luvin’ had over 100,000 downloads in three days. Pre-orders of her new album MDNA are at 50,000 and rising. And purchases of the top 10 of her older material are up 1700%. Luvin’, incidentally, will debut in the Billboard Top 10...making it Madonna’s 56th hit."
Do you eat cereal for breakfast? Do you know which cereals rank highest and fiber, sugar content etc? I can spend 30 minutes in the cereal aisle trying to compare nutrition facts and label. I just came across a blog post from Diet.com about the best and worst cereals.
For healthy cereals they had to have
-no trans fat
-no saturated fat
- have little or no sugar
-they also considered the fiber content
Seriously funny stuff...I wonder what the girlfriend initailly thought of this website and book. It's kind of poking fun at her and the fact that she and her boyfriend argue about silly things. It also just shows you how human you are when you fuss about these things with your sweetie...doesn't it?
Summer movies are getting on a roll now! Two weeks ago we had Iron Man 3, last week The Great Gatsby debuted with success and now this week we have Star Trek Into Darkness! I saw it on Friday and I must say: BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR so far! The 2009 reboot...
The Summer movie season is finally here, thanks to Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man 3! This of course, is the third Iron Man movie, but is actually just as much a sequel to last year's blockbuster: The Avengers. If any of the Avengers (Captain America,...
Okay, normally I see movies right when they come out, but I waited a little while to see Oz: The Great and Powerful. I finally saw it and I loved everything about it! Great visuals, great 3D, great story, great cast, tons of family fun and magic! I am...
Happy Birthday to Jessica Biel (31), Julie Bowen (43), Buddy Valastro (36) and Santonio Holmes (29). And if your birthday is today: Happy Birthday to you too from 97.5 WLTF!
Christian Lopez is a friend of the West Virginia Morning Show and have stopped by to chat about AI (well, as much as he's allowed to say) and he played his new original song "As Far As I May Go". Gooood stuff. Check it out.
